Cute little spot - small but mighty - lots of seating but I bet it could fill up fast. Music is a good level that you can have a conversation with your date. And friendly staff! We lucked out by finding a parking spot, but the lot is small so you may need to park around the side.
*We noticed that they have a Happy Hour, but we had just missed it by a couple of minutes - it ends at 6pm.
I ordered the curry bowl with rice and 2 proteins - pork belly and shrimp tempura plus egg - and my hubby tried the udon with the same 2 proteins pork belly and shrimp tempura plus egg. This was our first time having curry with udon. We're just used to having it with rice.
The presentation was really nice! The curry is kinda on the sweet side but they give you chili powder to spice it up, the pork belly was real tender but needed some spices or maybe could have been grilled a little to give it some flavor - and the egg was a nice addition. We were a little disappointed with the shrimp tempura - the batter was dense and chewy - I think I would pass on the shrimp tempura next time.
The curry with udon was tasty. It was more like a soup so the curry sauce was soupier - but it was really good. It would be a perfect dish for a chilly day!
And I can't forget to mention how tasty my beverage was. I had the sparkling yuzu white peach drink that was so tasty and refreshing! Try it, I think you'll really enjoy it!
Overall, it was a good visit! I would like to come back sometime to try the chicken...
Read moreI had really high hopes for this place, but it under delivered.
Since this is a new location, the service will sort itself out. It was very clunky and not streamlined. They also had a sign-up sheet, which confused everyone, cause there was a line outside, but also people signing on the sheet. Why didn't they remove the sheet? (anyway, not the reason I rated this place low). Main reason is the food.
I got the curry udon w/ pork belly + extra fried egg, curry fries, matcha latte.
Curry fries: The fries were undercooked, under done? Could definitely have used some more time in the fryer. The curry itself had good flavor. Overall average, to subpar, would not order again.
Curry udon w/ pork belly. Curry was the same decent flavor. Udon was average, nothing different that you'd get someplace else. (seemed slightly over boiled/cooked), There was no bite to them. The pork belly was terrible.... underseasoned, overcooked. No flavor in them whatsoever. I did see a prior group leave all the meat to the side and I wondered why... this may be the reason. The extra fried egg I added was the best tasting item in the bowl.
Match Latte was good, $6? I'll let that slide. Most places are now at this...
Read moreCurry DO is honestly one of my favorite restaurants in the entirety of SoCal. I love, love, love Japanese curry, and hadn’t found any places that quite lived up to what I grew up with, until I found Curry DO. The food here is now my gold standard by which I compare other restaurants’ curry to, and I would go every week if I could. I’ve enjoyed every item I’ve ordered so far, but I would definitely recommend the beef belly curry rice, gyoza, and matcha latte with honey cream.
Additionally, the service at Curry DO is excellent. The employees are knowledgeable, friendly, and efficient. Vanessa in particular is wonderful to talk to and is fantastic at her job! It is always a pleasant surprise to see her.
All in all, Curry DO is amazing and I highly recommend any/all curry fans to check it out (there are also locations in Buena Park and...
