We have visited Milner’s Gate many times to celebrate special occasions, but unfortunately this last time resulted in an experience that ruined the whole celebration. My wife made a reservation so they would be ready for our group of 10 people, even though it was going to be in the middle of the afternoon during the slow period. Everything was ready for us when we arrived, and we were pleasantly surprised to see that happy hour was starting shortly, as the happy hour menus were sitting at our seats. Almost immediately though the issues began. As soon as we were seated the manager came over and began chastising the hostess and waitress, saying that we should not have been given a reservation and they weren’t taking reservations. This started the unprofessional conduct out of the manager, Shawnee. Multiple times she chastised her employees or complained about us (we had one person who was running late so we waited 15 minutes to order our entrees, but did order apps, drinks) out on the restaurant floor, well within earshot of our table. Our waitress, Sarah, was great, but the attitude and behavior of the manager made us all uncomfortable and so when the checks came we gave the waitress our cards so she could just run them and we could get out of there, but we should have done the right thing and checked the tabs first. When the cards came back we discovered that we had been charged full price for all of our items, and not given the happy hour prices for the apps or drinks we’d ordered. I walked up to waitress to explain the disparity and apologize for not catching it sooner, and was just trying to point out the issue so they knew what had happened, but wasn’t even interested in getting it fixed as I just wanted to get out of there. The manager saw me talking to the waitress and came over to us, and said that she was aware of the happy hour price “mixup” and was trying to figure out how she could fix it. Since I hadn’t said what the issue was when she walked over it meant that she was aware of the incorrect prices we were charged before the bills were delivered to our table, and it was a conscious decision to overcharge us and hope that we wouldn’t notice. She then tried to throw her waitress under the bus and explain it as we were sitting in the dining area, and the happy hour prices are for the bar area. I calmly explained to her that if that’s the case that’s fine, but I highly recommend that you don’t provide happy hour menus to the dining tables in that case. Throughout the entire conversation I had not mentioned any refund, bill correction, etc, was just trying to give them the feedback of the disparity and how we didn’t appreciate some of the comments that had been made. Shawnee was raising her voice throughout the conversation, and was incredibly unprofessional. At that point I was no longer interested in being considerate and instead said that they needed to refund the original amounts and rerun at the correct price. I felt bad because it caused an undue amount of extra work for Sarah, but we tried to make it up to her with our tips. All in all it’s a shame that the manager’s unprofessional demeanor had to ruin the overall experience...
Read moreMilner's Gate is my new favorite place and that's saying a lot coming from this picky eater! I only have one complaint... They're 2 hours away from me! :(
My husband and I are were lucky to get a table late Valentines evening and my goodness, the entire meal I kept hearing myself say, "this is so good... mmm... that is soooo good... and, oh that is good!"
Let's see, where do I start? Well, we were greeted and seated by friendly staff. Then we were met by our waiter Quinn, who is literally one of the best waiters ever! He was extremely friendly (but in an authentic not fake way), knowledgeable, and patient. He was also so kind to spend time with my husband when trying to help him choose a beer he would enjoy. He suggested some of his favorite dishes and explained what they were thoroughly. This restaurant is lucky to have him as service like his is hard to find!
And then onto the food...
I love me a good well done rib-eye and chefs I'm sure aren't too happy with my choice of steak. So, I find myself always having to send it back which always leaves my family waiting and their food gets cold or they eat and feel bad I'm not eating, it's just a whole thing. Well not this time! My steak was cooked to PERFECTION!!! I mean, it was actually even better than perfect because not only was it well done but it was also super tender and melt in my mouth delicious! My husband also has issues with his medium well steak and his was perfect too. We were actually so impressed we asked to speak to the chef and thank him. Nick was so happy we were thrilled with our meal and you can tell he really cares. The rest of our food was just as good with no complaints, except we were too full to finish our scrumptious chocolate cake desert!
We enjoyed the ambiance, the service, and the food. You can go dressed casual or dress up. I love that their prices are fair and they don't overcharge. I know whenever we go out to Twin Falls again we'll...
Read moreI was already planning on coming here for dinner during our roadtrip, so I was quite surprised to see it suddenly pop up as a haunted location on “Paranormal Caught on Camera” But the only spooky thing here is how they don’t honor their advertised menu prices.
I wanted to give this place a relatively good review. I really did. Even though the beers are only okay (decent, but nothing noteworthy or interesting) and the halibut in the fish and chips was a little overcooked/dry, and the prices are a bit high.
But here’s the part that really soured the experience: their menu advertised all wines and all Milners Gate craft brews as half price during happy hour. We ordered two of those craft brews (plus fish and chips, filet mignon ramen, and buffalo cauliflower), and then noticed one of our beers was charged full price (instead of the advertised half off)… we questioned this when we got the bill, and the waitress came back and said that, apparently, not ALL of their craft brews are half off. And this one wasn’t… because of its ABV or something? (1) If only some of them are half price, you should make note of that and say which ones. (2) It doesn’t make any sense. A beer that is 8.2% is not allowed to be half price, but all of the wines — which are 12-15% — ARE half price?
It felt like a total bait-and-switch on pricing, and the fact that they didn’t give us the price listed right there in writing was completely unethical and unprofessional. Didn’t seem like the fault of the waitress, so I still left her a 15% tip, and instead will take away 3 stars from this review to represent the $3 we were overcharged.
I ask the owners: was...
