Dined at Blue Canyon today for Mother’s Day. It was a party of seven that included my grandmother who has trouble walking and uses a walker. We were sat a high top table, which was as clearly going to be an issue for my grandmother. My Aunt did not mention this when she made the reservation and I definitely understand it would have been nice if her to mention that. I first approach the hostesses in the front about moving to a lower table or if we could try a lower chair. They said they were not notified of my grandmother’s mobility issues when the reservation was made, so we tried the lower chair because they said with all the reservations they don’t know it they could switch tables. As you can imagine, her head was just above the table because the chair was just too short. I have worked previously as a hostess and a server for years, and regardless of being notified or not of mobility issues, if you see an elderly woman coming in walking very slowly with a walker, you would NOT sit them at a high top table. So while my grandmother is sitting in the shorter chair, the server, Cory, comes over and asks about drinks and I ask him again about a lower table. He immediately said oh yea, sure no problem. He went over to the hostesses, came back and told me he explained the situation to the manager because they were still saying we could not switch tables. I was glad because at this point I was about to ask to speak to them myself. There was also another lovely lady whose name I wish caught, that also approached and said she was trying to look for a chair that was a tad higher to help us out. So now we just sitting there waiting for the manager, for a nice amount of time. When he approaches he immediately says, “yea, we weren’t made aware of the mobility issues but we have another table for you”. He was smiling and being friendly but…SO WHAT YOU WEREN’T MADE AWARE?! I’ve never, ever, in my life had such an issue with simply switching a table!! Especially when you can SEE my grandmother with a walker! We FINALLY get to the shorter table and get settled. Cory comes and checks on us to make sure we are ok and let’s us know Neil will be taking care of us. The lady that was looking for a slightly taller chair also came and checked on us again as well to make sure we were all situated. The serving staff was awesome and helped to redeem the inconvenience. Thankfully, the brunch buffet was good and we all enjoyed the food. My grandparents and great aunt and uncle come to Blue Canyon often, but after today that will definitely not...
Read moreStarted with the lobster spinach artichoke dip, son got the chicken fingers with fruit, wife got the boat scallops with an added sirloin and subbed brussels for green beans, and i got the chicken thighs with golden mash, rosemary fries, and added scallops. Spin dip: flavor is there for sure, needs a bit of pepper to cut the fat. The mini naan feels like an after thought. Needs some butter and a seasoning to brighten things a bit, maybe lemon ghee would be perfect. Chicken fingers and fruit, chicken fingers were amazing and perfectly cooked, fruit was unevenly cut and much was under ripened. Wifes dishes:Scallops were done well. Bit overcooked, but the sear was awesome. Curry sauce was a bit spicy, but the rice and water helped. Green beans were perfect. Steak was well done and over salted on the first attempt, but the secnd was perfect. Mine: Chicken Thighs: this dish is awesome, but i would say the portion of chicken could be reduced to 2 thighs and the plate would not be so full. Not enough space to get your fork in. The corn truffle puree is perfect. The jam could go on the side really. It takes away from the amazing akin that is perfectly crispy. The fried leeks i could do without. Rosemary fries were sad and way over cooked. Even my kid would not eat them. Need to soak them in salt water to pull some starch out before frying the first time. The golden mash looked like it was served by a cafeteria lady and tasted the same. Golden mash is one of my favorites, and when done well is the perfect potato to whip and heavily pepper, was sad on this one. The scallops were the same as my wifes, but one thing i must say is there was no adnoid on the side of them, which was amazing to not have to pull off like ao many other places. Overall great job, waiter was professional attentive and patient. We were well taken care of by free dessert at the end of the evening for the steak discrepancy, so i give it a 4/5 overall. Keep going guys, the seasonal menu is amazing. I hope for a colorful future...
Read moreMy first visit and only visit at this restaurant was to celebrate a friends birthday. We were a party of approximately 25 to 30 people. There are a were more disappointments than I would have expected to have. Starting off with the layout of the room. It is my understanding that the tables were to be put together to make 20 people at one long table. That was not the case. When we mentioned it to the staff, one of the staff members, it could’ve been the manager, came over and started moving tables and chairs, and at one point told me personally that we could move the rest of them ourselves. He actually said that twice. I mentioned to him that it was his responsibility to set the chairs and tables where they needed to be. At no point did the manager come in to say any positive words to the birthday lady, or any of the people in our party. There were several comments from members of our birthday party that their meals were less than satisfactory. We had to return a salad, lobster bisque, and should have returned other meals. On the positive side, there were other meals that were very tasty. As a party, we spent several hundred dollars and I know I personally left a 30% tip. Not because the service was great, but because I bless people that way. I have read other comments from previous diners and the excuses that the manager/owner has given just speaks to the lack of concern for their unsatisfied customers. I hope that there were private comments mention to unhappy customers, inviting them to return to the restaurant with some type of discount or a complementary item. I am all for giving someone a second chance, but in this case I don’t think it’s warranted. As others have mentioned, the value of the food doesn’t match the...
