Our friend hosted a graduation party in the upstairs room. It was reserved weeks prior for 65 and then an additional 20 downstairs for a total of 85. Apparently there was a miscommunication and Javis reserved the room for 56 and they “thought” someone told them we didn’t need the 20 downstairs so they “cancelled” the downstairs table without speaking to the hostess or anyone helping with the event (nobody knows who they supposedly spoke to, but yet someone made the executive decision to cut the table and in 3.5 hours failed to ever offer a single extra seat, leaving many to leave). Javis management completely failed to staff according to this party size and the result was a disaster. There was one bar tender and one waiter. The waiter took drink orders, but we didn’t get drinks because all ended up going down to the main bar to get anything to drink because the line for the one bar tender was a minimum of 30-45 minutes because everyone was having to take chips and drinks to them to try to get refills. They had us write our dinner request on paper and put our names on the paper because they didn’t have the staff to take orders. The room was reserved for 2 hours, but we didn’t even receive our food in 2 hours. Multiple people left because again, the line to talk to the waiter/bar tender was so long. About 1/3 of the orders were lost, the food when it did arrive wasn’t nearly what it usually is. There were people sitting in the rain because even after being there 3.5 hours….they still hadn’t made a table down stairs. We asked to speak to the manager on numerous occasions and there was still no improvement. We didn’t see management even attempt to improve the staffing or help out once to deliver meals or help with the chaos of the bills. It took us over an hour just to pay out the bills, I personally told 5 people my order and asked for a check 5 times and finally got my check. Then they brought the bill out and tried to charge us for the extra time we were there and the manager told us it was because there had been a miscommunication about the # in the party. Never have I heard of staffing 2 people for an entire 60+ event. The staff working the event honestly tried to keep up, but the management completely failed to staff this event. People left because they couldn’t order, there was SUCH frustration about how long the meals took and how unorganized it was and then the audacity for them to try to charge for time that was due to their negligence to staff a large event accordingly was the absolute slap in the face in the end. This young lady trusted to have her event in this beautiful location and they completely failed her and all of her guest lastnight. I would never recommend an event at this establishment but if you do choose to have an event, I highly advise that you follow up to make sure just prior to the event that they keep the number you reserve accurate and make sure they plan to staff it...
Read moreI have been to Javis quite a few times as my family likes to celebrate events and birthdays there. But yesterday I had a truly disappointing experience at Javis in Tyler, Texas, and I feel compelled to share it. My family and I visited to celebrate my mother’s birthday, but unfortunately, the service we received completely overshadowed any positive aspects of the meal.
Upon arrival, things started off on the wrong foot when the restaurant couldn’t even find our reservation. We had booked for 15 people well in advance, but somehow, our reservation was lost. After some time spent sorting things out, we were finally seated—but the seating arrangements were a joke. Instead of properly accommodating our party of 15, we were crammed into three small tables that typically seat only 4 people each. This made the whole setup uncomfortable and cramped.
When we asked for additional seating to make our group more comfortable, we were repeatedly denied, despite clearly needing more room. After being brushed off multiple times, we had to escalate the issue and request a manager to finally resolve the situation. It shouldn’t have taken this much effort to fix such a basic oversight, and it made the start of our celebration feel incredibly stressful.
The issues didn’t end there. Our server, Jaqueline P, was incredibly rude and inattentive from the moment we sat down. Despite it being my mother’s birthday, there was no acknowledgment or effort to make the occasion special in any way. No “happy birthday,” no mention of any birthday specials—nothing. That was just the beginning.
The service only got worse from there. Jaqueline failed to clear our table even once during our entire meal. We were left with multiple dirty dishes and several extra cups scattered around, which not only made the space uncomfortable but also felt incredibly neglectful. Even more frustrating was the fact that every time we asked for something—whether it was napkins, refills, or even just basic attention—we were ignored. We waited for an excessive amount of time just to get basic requests met, and it seemed like it took forever for anyone to bring us anything.
The worst part came when it was time to pay. After waiting far too long to catch the server’s attention, I had to literally chase Jaqueline down to get my bill and settle the tab. It felt like an afterthought for her, and I left feeling completely frustrated and disrespected.
Overall, the lack of professionalism, courtesy, and simple attention to our needs was astounding. I understand that things can get busy, but the overall disregard for customer service was unacceptable. I won’t be returning, and I certainly won’t recommend this place to anyone looking for a pleasant...
Read moreHeading to Javis for a meal or having them cater an event has always been an experience to look forward to. Whether it’s the workplace gatherings or the large-scale events that require the touch of catering excellence, Javis has been our go-to spot. Their ability to deliver hot, timely orders every single time is nothing short of impressive. The steak, with its buttery goodness, and the chicken, renowned for its juiciness, stand out as culinary masterpieces. Not to mention, their beans carry the authentic flavor that’s hard to come by, and the rice is simply top-notch.
Eating inside Javis is another level of pleasure. The service is impeccable, ensuring that your meal is not only served hot but with a speed that doesn’t leave you waiting. Waiters with their knowledge of the menu guide you through, revealing hidden gems that promise to delight your taste buds.
Corby, the General Manager at Javis, deserves a special mention. His quick thinking and problem-solving skills have been a boon, especially during the high-pressure moments that big events tend to bring. His ability to maintain composure and ensure everything runs smoothly is truly commendable. It’s clear why, with leaders like Corby, Javis is a place I’ll always return to with enthusiasm.
IF, and that’s a big IF, there’s one aspect I hope for improvement, it would be the process for taking down orders, specifically for catering services. Currently, placing an order for catering a week in advance isn’t feasible. This limitation, while manageable, does add a layer of planning complexity for those of us organizing events on a larger scale. It would be wonderful to have the flexibility to call further ahead of time, ensuring everything is set well in advance, reducing last-minute scrambles and ensuring peace of mind.
In closing, my experiences with Javis have been overwhelmingly positive. From the delectable food to the sterling service and the adept management, it’s a place that has earned my trust and admiration. Here’s to many more meals and events with Javis, a true gem in the...
