Bakery La Mejor — Restaurant in Union City

I was craving pan and I haven’t been here in years and thought I’d try it again. I was impressed by how the pan looked, elegant and of quality however, the looks don’t match the taste. I tried the cookie with pink layered glaze which I found to be too hard that I had to dip and soak it in my coffee, I have tried these cookies from other places and they are soft which is the way I like them. I also tried a Guayaba puff pastry and found it to be the same. Also, they have significantly increased their prices per piece. This cookie was 3$ I wish they had samples before spending 40$ on 12 pieces of assortment of pan, I don’t mind paying a high price but I expect the taste/quality to match the price. And to my surprise they charged 3.00$ for the carton box that they packed the pan into !!! WTH??!! I found it to be absurd!! I would not be surprised if next they want to charge for a printed receipt !! I definitely won’t be coming...

Absolutely loved the cake that I ordered!

My colleague loves the strawberry tres leches and the conchas from this place so I ordered a tres leches cake for her bday. I thought the tres leches was good so decided to ask if they could make a dulce de leche cake for another bday party. I described the cake and they told me they could make one for me. I was so excited because this is a cake that I had a lot in my childhood and have not seen it been sold at any bakery.

It was absolutely wonderful! They use "cajeta" which is very similar to the dulce de leche. The cake was freshly made in the morning so it was moist, the sweetness was balanced; it was exactly what I was looking for! I am so glad that I ordered the cake here.

I stopped in the other day and had a great experience. When I came in, I was warmly greeted. She was on the back and said she would be up in a second, and I said it's all good, no rush. I was just looking. She emerged from the back and said hello and asked me if I had any questions to please ask. At first, I did not see the cookies but maneuvered my mobility scooter and found them. I picked a few out for my step-dad and kids and went to pay for them. She very politely asked if everything was ok with me and why i was on a scooter, which then struck up a friendly conversation about how she felt good for me and my positive attitude and knew I will be better and walking again.

I really appreciated the conversation and will definitely be back.
