For the record this isnt stephanie im just using the first available phone to me. Today i went to bills sandwich shop because i was informed that this business was hiring, as i pulled into the parking lot this information was confirmed by a "hiring short order cooks" sign. I walked into the restaurant and at the counter i asked for an application, the cashiers response was very short and rude. He said "were not hiring" i asked if that was their for hire sign twice and both times his response was "yes" but still refused to give me an application. I didnt know what to think because the sign was plain as day, i dressed and spoke wellbut to no avail. Im not sure if it has to do with my race or personal views of myself from this employee but all the same im pretty sure its illegal to post a for hire sign and deny somebody an application. I never asked for a job only an application. For all he knows it wasnt for me it could have been for someone of a complete different race (assuming) that has anything to do with it at all. The owner needs to be aware of how disrespectful his employees are. If hes willing to hire people this ignorant it probably says the same about him and how this business is ran. Just thought id let people know that when you go there be prepared for a tornado of disrespect, ignorance, unprofessionalism, and in my opnion possible racism and complete disregard for laws that were set forth...
Read moreBest hotdogs ever!! If you are not from New Castle PA. This place rivals, nay outshines Coney Island. I grew up in this town, and I've been going to this particular Bill's since I was a child. I knew Bill papazekos. He himself told me his delicious hot dog Chili (which is coveted) is an old family recipe from his homeland Greece. He was the nicest guy you'd ever meet, and he worked just as hard as his employees, if not harder. R.i.P Bill, you are missed and are immortalized forever through your chili recipe. I watched him retire and sell to Stephen Paris, and after his untimely passing, He returned briefly, and then it was sold to the very capable hands of Tom Schaffner, another very nice guy and former employee. He works hard, right alongside his employees. I am a regular trust me, I can say from personal experience that the recipe hasn't deviated much from the original. That is why that place will always be in business food that good doesn't stop being loved by thousands over the years. This place is a legend. This business may not have the recognition that Coney Island does, but it, for sure, should, and is surely one of the reasons that New Castle PA. Is the hotdog capital of the world! If you are not from New Castle PA and wanna experience the taste of an authentic New Castle chilidog, I highly suggest you make this one of your stops on that tour. Coney Island is decent, but...
Read moreMy family gets takeout from this location every once in a while and the food has always been great. Easily the best chili in town and is equally as good at the Wilmongton Rd. restaurant as well as Jimmy's (which is basically the same restaurant) across from Cascade Park. I would rate all locations 5 stars, but I really love this location because, as of a few years ago anyway, it's run by Bill himself.....yes, the original Bill, and he's an incredibly friendly and welcoming man. You can also use your bank/credit card to pay at this location. The location on E. Washington St. is cash only. While they do have an ATM inside the restaurant for your convenience, it (unsurprisingly) charges a fee so keep that in mind when you go to pick up your food. But the food is excellent and the employees are super cool there as well so it's well worth the minor inconvenience. But back to the State St. location, 5 of 5 easily. I mean, this is Bill's and, IMO, there is no place more deserving of 5 stars...
