Well, that was a first. I've never left a restaurant after being seated but before getting food.
We came during the 5 o'clock hour on a Saturday and were told it'd be about a 15-20 minute wait for the three of us - no surprise, pretty much what we'd expect. We killed some time in the shops nearby and returned about 15 minutes later and were told a table hadn't opened up quite yet - again, no surprise, no biggie. And then things went south.
Right after being told no table yet, the girl at the host stand told us we could go to the patio, and they'd just turned on the heaters but it'd be warmer in there shortly. Since there's not really room to wait by the front door, we were good with waiting there.
Then she got menus and we were taken to the patio. Huh? Well, I guess they decided to just put us out there to eat, after all... even though we'd have rather waited for a table inside, but we weren't asked for our preference. We get out to the patio and yes, the heaters were on, but they're only on one end and don't seem enough to adequately heat the space. Our table was the second one from that end and we could see our breath. Maybe having people out there when it's 27 degrees isn't the greatest idea.
Anyway, we're seated and waiting... and waiting... and waiting. A few times, someone came in to address the other two tables in the patio (yes, only two) but nobody ever acknowledged us. We couldn't even flag someone down because they were in and out so quickly and never looked our way.
After 10 minutes of waiting without a soul seeming to know we existed, we got up and left. We weren't about to sit for who knows how much longer, and THEN have to wait another 30-45 minutes for our strombolis to be made all while sitting in a cold patio.
I'm typically reasonably forgiving if something about a place doesn't go as I'd prefer - stuff happens - but this was ridiculous. We won't waste our time again, since this experience had a cascading effect for trying to find other places to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI ate a delicious late-afternoon meal recently 1-4-2020] at Carsonie's Stromboli and Pizza Kitchen at 1725 W. Lane Ave.
I had studied the menu on-line before arriving and had very much wanted to order Stromboli [Original.
However, the on-line menu had warned, at the top of the "From the Oven" section, "since our Stromboli and pizza start from scratch, please allow up to 30-45 minutes for these items (see server for accurate quote while ordering)."
If the wait would be too long, I had already decided, I would order, instead, in the "Grandma's Hoagies" section of the menu, "The Italian Stallion" [savory ham, salami, and capicola ham, topped with lettuce, tomatoes, onion, banana peppers, provolone cheese and balsamic dressing.
My server told me, while ordering, that the wait for Stromboli right then would be approximately 20 minutes so I ordered Stromboli. I guess that "The Italian Stallion" will have to wait for a future visit.
My server then told me that the 30-to-45-minute variable wait time varies depending on how many other ovens are in use at the time when the order is placed.
If you are looking for a delicious Italian meal in a restaurant that has a great atmosphere, I strongly recommend Carsonie's Stromboli and Pizza Kitchen at 1725...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWent here on the afternoon of 8/21. There was ONE person in the restaurant besides the bartender/server if you want to call her that. She was BRUTALLY bad. Her people skills were nonexistent. Considering we were the only ones there, she could have at least made an attempt to make our visit pleasant. She never checked on us. Never refilled my water or my mom's drink. My mom asked for butter for her roll, which should have automatically been brought out with the food/rolls. She brought her one little little packet. The roll is not tiny. The rolls were cold, like they had been in a fridge. The "server" checked on us once. Just brutal. My chicken parmesan was good, but the spaghetti noodles with the cheese sauce was so bland I couldn't taste anything but he spaghetti. And the noodles were clumped together like they had been sitting, waiting to be served or not properly stirred during cooking. How do you mess that up with NO CUSTOMERS IN THE RESTAURANT? My mom said her spaghetti was average. Shameful. Moretti's, down the street, is INFINITELY better than this place.
The fact that I wrote this review three months ago and NOBODY from this restaurant has reached out, commented, or apologized says all one needs to know about them. I've been in customer serviice for thirty years. You should be ashamed of yourselves. I hope you go out...
