I usually don't like to give bad reviews, but they absolutely have to get one. This is the second time I buy here, just to make sure I am being fair. Last time I got bistek a lo pobre, bad quality meat, the one that when you strecht the meat you see a red of fat fibers and a mediocre lomo saltado at best. Today I got papa a la huancaina, $10.00 for maybe 2 small potetos, one egg and one olive, they really believe they are in New York, a Bistek encebollado, where is the rice?, and a tacu tacu, look at the picture!, does that looks like a tacu tacu, that is meat over rice, and provably the same quality. I spent almost $50.00 for those 3 things and wanted to charge me 3% for using my debit card, these people are greedy! , most places won't charge you anything if you buy at least $15.00 worth. Better go to La Tierra Colombiana on 5th Street of the Boulevard, you won't be desapointed, better prices, better portions, better taste, better place. This place is bound to fail, for sure! BTW: The bathrooms are eternally...
Read moreBy far, the BEST Peruvian food in Philadelphia! I got the Pollo A La Brasa, Chaufa rice, and fries. Let me tell you! I've been to El Pollo Rico in Arlington, Virginia, which well known as the best Peruvian chicken in the United States. So when I say the chicken here reminded me of there, that says a LOT! If you like or want to try Peruvian rotisserie chicken (Pollo A La Brasa), definitely give this place a try, you won't be disappointed!
Stay away from Sardi's. The food the Peruvian rotisserie chicken there is GARBAGE. They try to come across as fancy with all those packaged sauces. That place needs those sauces because the food is so bad.
I'm DEFINITELY going back to H&B! Can't wait to try the lomo saltado and ceviche (if they have ceviche) 😎
Update: The best Peruvian food in the area is actually Kiko's Peruvian food just over the Ben Franklin bridge in NJ in Oaklyn, NJ (basically Collingswood). BUT, that doesn't mean H&B is less good. I STILL recommend H&B and still frequent them when...
Read moreAfter having an awful experience with another local Peruvian restaurant a couple years back, we had been in search of an alternative within our area for quite some time.
Our search finally ended a few months back with a small hole-in-the-wall take-out place in Drexel Hill right next to our local vet. H&B's pollo a la brasa hits it completely out of the park with a house-made Aji Verde that is addicting. We always get the fried plantains and fried rice with our chicken. My wife always says that the plantains remind her of the ones she used to enjoy while she was in Aruba. Our food is always fresh and delicious and more than enough for dinner and lunch the next day.
There's parking in a shared parking lot with only a couple of other stores but if the lot is full, just park at the animal hospital next door. Dine in and take out options are both available. I highly recommend you try this spot out for authentic Peruvian cuisine that will hit the...
