My daughter and I had just finished a walking tour of the University of Illinois, and were looking for something quick to eat before our metered parking expired. The final leg of the tour brought us past Bab+, so we quickly doubled back to the restaurant.
The restaurant was fairly small – I’d guess around 15 or so tables – and full! There wasn’t a table free, but we hoped that we would find a seat by the time we ordered.
Ordering was simple, there was plenty to choose from – she chose Bul Go Gi (bulgogi), and I chose Oh Sam Bul Go Gi (aka Osam-Bulgogi – spicy squid and pork belly). Everything is cooked fresh, and it took maybe 10 minutes for our order to be ready. In the meantime, we had asked someone if they didn’t mind sharing a table, but as we prepared to sit down the next door table became available. It seems 12:30 is a popular time! We did notice that some of the popular ratings apps showed that the restaurant was closed, when it was open and doing a roaring trade!
There was a selection of bottled drinks at the counter, and water and ice available from a dispensing machine. We both enjoyed our choices very much. They were served with miso soup and a bowl of rice.
Very filling, very tasty, and we will definitely be back!
By the time we had finished our meal, there were a lot more tables available, but stream of customers...
Read moreThe food is decent, the price is apalling, and the service is worse. 11 bucks for some fried rice (portions aren't even that big compared to what you'd expect for 6 dollars at a chinese place), 10 bucks for soup, 13 bucks for tonkatsu and you get a measly dollop of rice with any dish. Like, seriously. 10 pounds of dry rice costs not that much. Would it kill you to add just a little more?
I went there today and ordered a very basic fried rice. Order was done 3 minutes after I ordered it, but I didn't know that was mine at the time. After me, 4 different people all ordered and they all got their food before I did. I had to stare at the cashier and then gesture at him for him to remember I existed, at which moment he picked up my food which had been sitting there for 18 minutes and handed it to me in a bag. By that time, the food had already gotten quite cool.
Maybe worth going to with your friends when you want to eat something nice, definitely not worth going to regularly. And, from what I can tell, nobody who works there gives 2 craps about anything, so if you're wronged in any way, you can expect jack diddly diggle as recompense for your 10 dollars...
Read moreI loved this place before until yesterday when my friend and I went there around 8PM. We got our food 10 mins later and started eating. At 8:23, the waiter approached us and said “are you still eating?”After I replied “yes”, he forced us to leave right away, without even a chance to finish our meals because “the restaurant is closing” while the official closing time is 8:30PM. This means, I even didn’t got a chance to eat the rib I was working on and was still underfed even though I paid for the food and service as a customer. To kick us out, he took out boxes and one old lady came out, signaling “you should get out now”. I first tried to pack my food by myself, but they even rudely grabbed my box and started packing for me. Obviously they blamed me for my slow packing. Well they could have allow us more time to eat, right? Or advance notice for more time? Or they should stop receiving orders earlier? Or apologize for closing soon? No, they did none of them but just directly kicked us out and indicated we were not welcomed even we were customers there. This is my very first experience of terrible service in...
