Steampunk Tap Room — Restaurant in Utica

My boyfriend and I stopped in here for our first time yesterday while we were in the area. We love checking out new tap rooms and breweries any chance we get. This place is an absolute gem! From the moment we sat down, Randy made us feel like we were old friends who were right at home. The craft beer selection is incredible, not to mention the mead and wine lists! On top of that, there is a retail area with an amazing beverage selection as well. The drinks were top notch, however, the crowd of genuine people this place seems to draw in (No doubt because of Randy's humor, kindness and charm) and the warm, cozy atmosphere is -by far- the best part of the Steampunk Tap Room. I have to admit, we were pretty spoiled during our visit. We had an extra special treat and got to meet, give belly scratches, and get cuddles from the resident pup Scooby. As if our time here wasn't great enough already, we ended our evening meeting the very friendly, funny, and down to earth, mayor of Utica- Thom Dionne, who was right down on the ground giving Scooby belly scratches too.

Now, I hate to admit it, but unfortunately there is one HORRIBLE thing about the Steampunk Tap Room... And that is the fact that we live several hours away and can't stop in...

So been going here for a few years now. We like the place but. Cool fun place. So it's steampunk ohhh not really.... ! Went to the Renaissance festival stopped in for beer dressed. Thought it would be cool. We belong to a invaders group and a steampunk group. Told folks about the places and they ask how it would be received if they came dress. Well we got our answer, NOT. Sad it is. First thing thru the door we were jeered by a guy at the end of the bar, very sad. To make it worst the guy sitting next to him seemed to be someone of the bar. There is a movement here in Michigan folks doing steampunk and pirate it's fun and we're looking for places to go. But we'll come in our regular dress and tell the rest not to go to the STEAMPUNK bar dressed. I mean Utica and your place could be fun having us be there could have been a thing. Firstly, my friend and I picked this specific location because we are both fans on "Steampunk", and we were both pretty disappointed in that regard. So, if that's a theme you're looking for, definitely lower your expectation. Secondly, it's a lot smaller than I anticipated and it was pretty full (it was a Saturday evening), and all the talking from everyone just made the room REALLY loud and I had to shout for normal conversation. I think that's pretty normal for a bar, so expect that during the busy hours. Thirdly, staff was friendly and as attentive as I would expect for how busy it was. The food (bratwurst and fries) were delish and so were our drafts. Lastly, kudos to whoever keeps that bathroom clean and smelling good! Cleanest public bathroom I have EVER used! Cleaner than the ones...
