Better Chew Kitchen — Restaurant in Vallejo

First time visitors. The French fries are delicious. The staff, engaging. Hence the two stars. We went April 25th.We both ordered the cheesesteak, on recommendation. Friend had regular, I had the 'premium cut' one. The cheesesteaks were BIG(I only finished about a third of mine, friend finshed half). Full of 'meat', flavorful. Especially since it's vegan. The problem came about 15 mins after I started eating. Worst bloat ever. Stomach felt full of Bubbly rocks. About an hour after that.. Dumping Syndrome (the Bubble guts, but from both ends! Simultaneously!) I stayed on the toilet with a plastic bag, throughout the night, into the next day.

Now, HERE is why the get two stars. The fries SAVED them from ZERO. I could NEVER reach anyone by phone to ask what they fabricate their 'meat' from. No answer. No RING. Straight to 'the person you have called...' I'm NOT driving back across the bridge ($7), JUST to find out what it was that made me SICK like that. I really wanted to be able to...

I AM NOT VEGAN but I'm going here for fried chicken from now on.

For folks that have a bias against vegan food, their fried chicken tastes JUST like fried chicken if not better. I'll tell you why...

I tried it with Crystal, Tapatío, ketchup, mustard, bbq sauce, teriyaki sauce, kewpie mayo, and sriracha. The sriracha and kewpie individually were really good and by far the best. Then I put the two together and it took it to the next level! Try it, Vallejo.

I also had the greens and Brussels sprouts. The Brussels sprouts were good but the greens were an experience on their own. At first, I didn't taste like traditional greens but it was definitely a pleasant surprise!

This restaurant is completely vegan. We went for lunch. I'm a vegetarian & I had the Fried Chicken Sandwich (Toasted bun, mayo, pickles, breaded fried chicken & Secret Sauce). My favorite parts were the chicken and secret sauce which was slightly sweet. I don't normally like pickles or 'sweet' flavorings with savory but I really liked this. My friend is an omnivore I let him take a bite & he liked it. He ordered the Steak Philly Cheesesteak (hoagie, better chew shredded steak, mayo, grilled onions, grilled peppers, BC cheese, Cheddar melt). I took a bite of his. We both liked the flavor but he missed real mayo, & I thought it was good as prepared. We shared regular size cheese fries and we both liked those with ketchup.
