We love to eat at Denny’s when we are traveling. I am in my late 60’s now & have probably eaten at hundreds, if not thousands of Denny’s over my lifetime. If you count up all other restaurants I have eaten at over my life, it would be tens of thousands of restaurants. This Dennys, at 450 Fairgrounds Drive in Vallejo was by far the worst Denny’s we have ever eaten in and I can not think of a worse restaurant overall in my entire 67 years of life. This is a warning to all. This IS a horrible place and a black eye to the name “Denny’s.” How Denny’s allows them to keep their franchise is a mystery to me.
We had family visiting from Washington State and they were flying back to Washington on July 30th, 2018 and we wanted to get together for breakfast before they flew out and we decided to meet at this Denny’s. As usual, there was a sign that read, “Hostess will seat you.” The hostess appeared and told us that one of the waitresses was "on her break" and we would have to wait until after her break to be seated. This seemed very strange to us. Unlike most Denny's there was no place to sit while waiting so we stood and waited. We looked into the dining room and approximately four booths had customers. The place was practically empty!! There were four wait staff, one busboy, and a couple cooks. And they couldn’t handle seating us?
So we stood there for a while. We saw a table that was big enough for our party, (there were eight of us) and I went over and asked the waitress if we could at least sit down while we were waiting. She asked, curtly, “are you the next in line?” At that time, there were a few other people behind us that had just come in but I assured her that we were next in line. She begrudgingly allowed us to sit at the table.
After quite a while of sitting, a waitress appeared swung by our table to leave some menus. and brought some menus. It was unclear why even that had taken so long as there were at least one waitress for every two tables, plus the busboy!! She said our waitress would be right with us and didn't even take out drink orders! Then we proceeded to wait again for another ten minutes before "our" waitress returned from, what must have been her lunch break, as we had already been there about thirty minutes without even any drinks!
She took our orders for both the drinks and food as we all knew what we wanted for 20 minutes already!! I wanted to build my own slam as I often do in other Denny’s with no problem. I wanted a couple eggs over medium, some hashbrowns, a slice of ham and a couple slices of French Toast. Is that so complicated? “We’re out of hash browns,” the waitress told us. What?! Denny's out of hash browns? She took everybody’s orders and then after a long wait, when she brought out our orders, she brought pancakes instead of the French toast I had ordered! Those in our party that wanted low fat creamer for their coffee were out of luck. My eggs were not adequately cooked but there was no way I was going to send them back.
At one point, "our" waitress reappeared again, (I believe we were her only table) and asked if everything was “okay.” I said, “no, we would like some more coffee and I had asked for an empty glass.” She seemed to remember that I had asked for an empty glass to share my husbands orange juice. She disappeared and never returned with the glass or the coffee refills. After another long wait and nobody attending to us, and with our waitress who knows where, I went up to the counter and asked if I could have the coffee pot and I would refill our coffee.
Again, the place was practically empty!!! Maybe the locals knew something we didn’t. By the time we left, there were maybe six booths with people. It would seem that four waitresses, a busboy and a couple cooks could handle that but apparently not at this horrible Denny’s with no hash browns and no coffee refills at 450 Fairgrounds Drive in...

Read moreHaven't left a penny tip in over 20 years til tonight. The drinks for our group of 9 were ordered and delivered promptly. It was down hill from there. It took 20 minutes and a second round of drinks before the orders were taken. Shortly after that a patron from another table stood in the middle of the restaurant and loudly demanded his food. We all thought it was a little over the top, but little did we know what was coming our way. After another hour of waiting 5 of our 9 plates came out. Only 1 of the 5 was correct and the one that was a hamburger that had a scorched bun from sitting under a heater too long. We then watched many others receive their food. 20 minutes later after the first 5 plates arrived and had been consumed we asked were is the rest of the order? 2 more dishes came out. Both were correct but suffered from poor quality. The last 2 meals were forgoten altogether. An hour and forty-five minutes after walking into this place before my son and I finally got our food; both orders were wrong. A bill was received for the full price and was paid. The manager at the register had the nerve to ask how everything was. We let her know that we were there for over 2 hours and in 50 years have never experienced such poor service at a Denny's. We went here because it's conveniently located near a 6-Flags we visit. We will never visit here again. Stay clear of...
