Taj Grill — Restaurant in Vallejo

Terrible service

We got there around 2:15pm on Mother's Day and they close at 3pm.

There was a table of people outside and a single man at a table inside of the restaurant.

The manager walked towards us as we entered the restaurant to tell us that they would not serve us as they had to reset the restaurant for their 5pm Dinner. He said we could order takeout. We agreed that it was fine because we were running late for another appointment and we didn't have time to go to a different restaurant.

We asked if we could eat our takeout there until they had to kick us out at 3 and the manager told us no because it would be too loud for us since they would be cleaning up.

While we waited for our food the manager lounged in a chair in the restaurant and the one server was outside regaling the table of White patrons with a long, loud story.

The food arrived pretty quickly and I asked if there were forks. The manager said no and directed the server to bring us cutlery. The server tried to hand me a single fork even though there were two of us and we had ordered two meals.

I asked for 2 forks and some napkins. The server sullenly asked me if there was anything that I wanted, like he was doing me a huge favor against his better judgment. Then he came back and handed me the same single fork and a handful of wet napkins.

By this time, I was so frustrated with dealing with him that I just accepted the soggy napkins and asked again for a second fork. The server once again asked did I want anything else, as though I hadn't just asked him for 2 forks, and reluctantly brought me another plastic fork.

We sat on benches in front of the restaurant eating out of the to go containers while less than 10 feet away the White family got to eat at a table. We finished eating before 3pm and left.

The food was ok but I will never give them one penny more of my hard earned money.

What they didn't know is that we are regulars, we just usually...

Here's my review: Sadly, I didn't get to take pictures and try the food due to the service. It was such a conflicting situation.

I walked in around 4:15 p.m. , and they were completely empty and surprised someone walked in. I stood at the door and said, "Oh, are you closed?" They said no, come in, and stood at the counter. I asked if I could sit, and they were so confused as to why I wanted to sit down or dine in. So, I asked if they were take out only, and they said, "NO NO, please sit anywhere." And opened their hand to an area in the restaurant. I headed in the direction they pointed me in and sat down.

A guy comes over and says, "Miss, this is reserved." I said," Oh ok, and walked out. As I began to walk, they rushed to change their mind to allow me to sit, and I refused.

The reason I left was because I didn't feel like I was being guided right and that I was not welcome. I was pleasantly dressed and clean, so I couldn't imagine why I was treated so strange.

For a place to be completely empty and to point me towards a reserved seat then want to move me after I sat there was unorganized and made me conserned about the safety and organization of their kitchen. I would have thought they'd be happy to have some present to enjoy the space they spent so much time and energy creating.

I hope you all find this review helpful, and I hope the owner improves the service staff so others can have a better...

Perhaps best Indian food I've had and one of the best customer service experiences at a restaurant I've ever had in my life.. and in these Covid times that is no small thing!! They acomodated us with outdoor dining and service to our table with frequent though not ridiculous check ins on us and our experience. The flavor of all of the several dishes we tried last to celebrate my partner's 21st birthday was amazing!! Both she and I couldn't have been more happy and wowed with both out meal and their above and beyond with their customer service. Heck, even their plain naan and complimentary refill was delicious and that was just plain.. so that tells you.. Additionally, both of us as vegans really appreciated their fairly big selection of vegan options/dishes and how you could tell they even went out of their way (and above and beyond with other similar restaurants do) to make simply wonderful and amazing plant based "fake" soy/seitan based meat dishes. We both couldn't say enough nice things about this wonderful and delicious family owned restaurant/establishment. My partner and I even said if we could give this place 6 stars instead of 5, we would - it's that good! We're definitely coming back here again soon and Lucky, the owner, has even now made new...
