Having a bartender that can really navigate a crowd is a big win, so A+ there. Our bartender was checking in, reading visual cues, keeping conversations short with other patrons etc. He was clearly a favorite as a patron sitting at a table skipped tipping their server to run a tip to him instead. The regulars are definitely comfortable here.
As other reviews have stated, the regulars can be pretty loud and obnoxious and you can pick them out from the crowd real quick. They were working on a side room when we went and I would throw in the suggestion to add a secondary bar there. The less rowdy will stick with who they know at the main bar (ideally) and you can have a solid bar in a dining area.
Now onto the food, which isn't bad as far as quality, it's quite good, it just has the same issue Wood-N-Tap locations have had for the last 5 years, portions. 5 drinks, 2 apps and an entree and we were staring at $100 tab. We took home none of it, which, for most, is a nod to how good the food was. Comparably it just feels under portioned and always has at every location. We split the nachos, I got a burger, my friend got a Dilla and we had 5 drinks between us, 3 for her 2 for me. Over $100 with tip.
Competition wise Wood-N-Tap would face off against a Red Heat, as they tend to have a focused beer selection as well as similar apps. I can go to Red Heat order a very similar selection of food and drinks and still come home with food, and I'll remember when I see that food the next morning how good it was and I'll go back to Red Heat. Because we ate everything at Wood-N-Tap, the entire experience is isolated to just the memory of craft beer, loud patrons and food I remember being good, but I honestly needed to open the menu again to even recall what I ate. The Main Pub would also be a competitor in my eyes and their bill is usually at least $10 under what I would see at Red Heat, and my friend and I take home leftovers food from them as well on that bill.
Geographically comparative I can go to Chilli's any night of the week, spend $120 with tip, get 3 tall beers a piece, a triple dipper, nachos with chicken, chips and salsa, a quesadilla explosion salad and 2 chicken bacon quesadillas and only completely finish a dilla, the triple dipper and half of an explosion salad before leaving, meaning at the very least, me + 1 are looking at more beer and at least an extra app a piece for less than $20 more. 99 down the road will give you a similar payout, but probably at $110 total with tip. Happy hour at 99 I've spent as little as $80 pre-tip with 4 beers a piece with my friend and 2 apps to take home + leftovers.
Point being, fix the portion size. I want to feel like I'm getting a deal not just eating good food. That experience can be traded off with too many other local bars with better...
Read moreI been coming here once a month normal sit in dine in but decided to sit at the Tuesday Aug 27th. We sat down didn't really greet us right away she was busy that fine. Then I order my drink . My date wanted to see the menu before to figure what she wanted. Then someone walks in who she knows greeted them right away tells us to move are seat to seat them at the car then the seat where she had us move to wad wobbly and any time u move it rocks . Also there was less bar space my date said there less room here plays it off o people eat there all the time. So I go to move to a table at thr Bar then the bar tender said I'm not making ur drink now that not my table. I spoke to the manger working I told him i leaving. Told him my problems he told me he would make me the drinks personally if we stayed he put us in dine in. Craig was good waiter food good like always. Never had problem here. But someone who working should not play Favorites and tell people to move. The people did offer to go sit some where else but she insisted on making us move and making us have a unpleasant experience. So as long as she is working I won't ever go back. And I always love to get the Philly egg rolls during the fall/ winter menu. The other bar tender the guy always good to work. I come here as I enjoy the food should be treated fairly. As I a business owner my self. That's saying someone came in at 11am then someone comes in at 11 15 I start doing a service to the 11am car and then pull it out od the bay do the 11 15 service first . It's first come first service not move us and take care of them first . So unfortunately due to the bar tender playing Favorites I won't be back. (The manger tried to make it right did what he promised. CRAIG was good server and made sure we was taken care of. The food runners was nice helpful like they always are) My tabs are always over $100 plus I also tip well as I know server relay on tips. Never take it out on them if food was bad as they did not cook it. I treat eveyone fair I still tip craig 30% as he was not at fault for the bartender most people would have taken it out. So I try to be...
Read moreSorry people, my last visit to Wood and Tap was somewhat disappointing. I was alone and asked to be seated and was sharply told "you gotta wait a minute, I have to take this delivery call now. " After the receptionist got off the phone she NEVER said "how are you, " or "welcome. " She just grabbed a menu, seated me and said "your server will be right with you. " NOT!!! My server was obviously not happy that I was a single person out for a meal in a restaurant that was real good for years. Heads up, people...not any more. I ordered my usual, fried calamari appetizer along with the bison burger and a craft beer IPA. Folks, sorry you have to read this entire screed, but seriously...my bill was 43 dollars and I DID give the inferior server a 20% tip because I kinda felt this was the only job she had and needed the money. Hey folks, thanks for hanging with me here, I felt I needed to give you all some background before we got into the food. I really do believe they have changed chefs since I was here last. Before I tell you about my meal, I have to hit everyone with this...DON'T GO HERE!!! My fried calamari was tasty but totally greasy and on top of that, they had too many deep fried peppers along with the calamari. For my meal, my bison burger was prepared totally as I requested and the French fries were excellent. Bottom line, people...service was way lower than second rate with an "I don't really care" attitude. My calamari appetizer was always good but now too greasy and NOT cooked enough. There were only 2 positives from this dining experience...the beer I ordered was excellent and so was my bison burger!!! Sorry, people. I am just being honest with you and don't want any person to have a bad experience. I hope you all have a wonderful day..."don't...
