Based on the reviews we had high expectations. However, we were sorely disappointed.
Maybe by the looks alone, as we entered, should have been a tip-off. It appeared to be a glorified pizzeria, claiming "gourmet" food quality based on its name and the favorable reviews. I might have rated it a 2 or 3 star, if we had come for pizza and had one, but we came for gourmet and didn't get it.
My opinion? Those who rated this joint as highly as they did placed more emphasis on price than food quality. Either that, or Frank has many relatives in Verona who pumped up his ratings. It was ordinary, at best, and the pricing was only a step below true fine dining experiences, so to us, it was a total waste of money, rather than a bargain.
Some specifics? The hotsy totsy shrimp were over-fried and over-breaded. Nice size shrimp, but not prepared with care. The Veal Verona (sliced veal, covered in prosciutto, with eggplant) sounded very appealing, but the veal was tough and not very tasty, and the accompanying risotto was less than ordinary. Sounds like a value priced at $25, but who needs to spend $25 and be let down? I'd have been better off ordering a pizza!
As indicated, the decor should have been a warning, as it is more pizzeria than restaurant. Some might consider it ordinary, but others might arguably term it shabby (and not shabby chic, but just plain shabby). Decor alone is not the issue, as the food disappointed by a wide margin.
If you are in the mood for pizza and dining with another who'd prefer something more substantial, then maybe this place will work for you. However, if you want a gourmet dining experience, strike FRANK'S from your list of acceptable...
Read moreLast weekend I had the pleasure of hosting my daughter's baby shower at Frank Anthony's. I don't think there are enough words to say how absolutely perfect it was. From my initial meeting with Nick until my last guest left my experience was beyond my expectations. The room was set up just right from the beautiful tablecloths and napkins, to any request we had for additional tables for deserts and gifts was met with immediate attention from an outstanding staff. Nick helped us chose the perfect menu and the food was outstanding. My quests are still talking about our event from beginning to end. If you are looking for a venue to hold a lovely intimate party do not hesitate to consider Frank Anthony's Gourmet Italian Restaurant. Thank you Nick, Eric and your amazing staff for making my daughter's baby shower an occasion we will remember...
Read moreThere's a rustic feel to the place which is nice. The appetizers ESPECIALLY the pizza were a delight. The salmon was good but most people who had a chicken dish said that it was a little tough. I was a little disappointed with the staff. Our main server was very polite very attentive and professional. To have someone behind the counter with long hair that she kept touching without her hair tied up and short shorts delivering food to the table was unprofessional. One of the less experienced wait staff spilled francese sauce all down one of the guests back onto her chair with no help or regard at all. The cappuccino was very watered down. You kind of look forward to that after dinner treat and expect it to taste italian since it's an Italian establishment. I hope this review helps the owners which in turn will help...
