I had a religious experience after my first bite of Mike Gates’ ribs. I would consider myself an amateur BBQ connoisseur. I’ve been to some of the top rated BBQ restaurants all across the south. I love all kinds, sampling in every state across the south as well as Texas and Oklahoma (sorry Kansas City, haven’t made it up to you yet). Different regions are good, and some places that don’t have a strong history have a lot of options. Mississippi is known for pork, and ribs. Big Bees did not disappoint. These were the best ribs I’ve ever had, hands down. I didn’t need sauce but that made it better. Tender, flavorful, perfect balance of smoke, pepper, rub, without sacrificing the taste of the meat. The BBQ baked beans, Mac n Cheese, were also great. If you prioritize ambiance, table service, or other superficial qualities when picking restaurants, you will sleep on this place and miss out on some of the best FOOD you’ll ever have. This place looks like a bbq place and I wouldn’t change a thing. Chain BBQ restaurants are the embarrassment to the industry. Big Bees is exactly what I want a BBQ place to look like. Mike is an amazing owner, cook, and host. Our group felt like we were sitting in his home kitchen with how warm and hospitable he made us feel. Next time I pass by, will definitely stop back in. May even find any excuse I can to make a special trip back.

We were doing our 3rd tour of the Mississippi Delta going to various Blues sites and markers when we found our selves at the southern end/falling out the southern end in Vicksburg. It was about 2:00PM and we had planned on going to one place, but they closed mid-afternoon. We went to half a dozen other places (that weren't fast food joints) and they were all closed as well. We were just about to break down and go to fast food place when we stumbled across Big Bee's BBQ. We went in and were absolutely floored by the quality of the cooking. The place isn't much to look at, but it does capture that quintessential "building-by-the-railroad-tracks-doing-its-best-to-fight-off-the-Kudzu-in-the-deep-South" feeling. The owner was great to talk to and the service was quick and sincere. Really great food and worth a stop if you're in the area. Just a short ride from the battleground and very well worth the trip.

We are doing a cross country drive this summer, visiting national parks, landmarks and little known treasured places. We were thrilled to have found this restaurant. It’s far from fancy, but in our humble opinion it rates as high as the Chart House restaurant, at the Tower of the Americas in TX. We visited with Mr. Mike who shared of his family history in the area. We were excited to learn that his recipes are handed down from a few generations back. His kindness, friendliness, and warmth will not be forgotten. My daughter refers to Harmony as a “sweet friend” she made this summer, and hopes to visit again someday. His BBQ is outstanding! We truly enjoyed the ribs, pulled pork, baked beans, potato salad and coleslaw. My teen said he wishes he could give the burger 🍔 a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ because 5 stars doesn’t do it justice. It was truly an excellent experience for all 5 senses. 🙌🏻

My wife and I were driving from Arkansas to Florida for vacation when we stopped here. Maybe 20 minutes off the interstate but OH MAN this food will make you wanna slap a person GOOD! We were not that hungry when we stopped but wanted to get something quick so we ordered a combo to share! While we were waiting we heard a couple of local Lady's order rib tips, which I had not seen on the menu, and I almost tripped jumping up to give my wife more money to add them to the order.

Let me just say that I LOVE rib tips. I've had them from Chicago to Memphis and these are by far the best I've had that I can remember. My wife is a Mid Westerner by birth and had never had rib tips ( I know, I still fell in love with her) and when she tried them and Big Bee's ribs I practically had to rip the to-go box back from her. My wife is kinda fru fru and fancy so I've been introducing her to the South's finer grubs and hubs and Big Bee's hit the spot!

So whoever you are and wherever you are from, if you are rolling through Vicksburg and are ready for some good BBQ you will do yourself a disservice not to try Big Bee's.

As a white guy who grew up in a very loving bi-racial, mixed family I KNOW that when you see a black man standing in a small roadside kitchen, talking about how his Grandma taught him to cook fried chicken, you are about to get some good food!

Edit: AH, maybe that last paragraph wasn't politically correct but shouldn't be offensive to anyone. Being at Big Bee's just reminded me of being back home with the people who are my family and the cook out we...

I ordered the 3 meat w broccoli n chz 1 ribs were 100% fantastic fall off the bone delicious. Great job I will be back for more of those again.. There were a couple small burnt chips but I think they were just thrown in for people who like the very crispy taste . I think it's better without them but that's just my opinion. 2 chk meh was a bit dry and overcooked but still edible and the flavor was definitely there. Just might have had an off day and cooked it little too long it happens . 3 pulled pork 100% fantastic juicy not a dry bite in the whole bunch. Great job BBQ baked beans 1000% Omg delicious. Taste like home . They had tons of meat in them and were gone before anything else. Broccoli n cheese 90% Broccoli was steamed very tender which I love. But the cheese was a canned cheese and it is not good. Use Velveeta or just a real cheese melted and poured onto that Broccoli and it will be just as wonderful as the baked beans. Also might want to get a better container for the beans. When we got home it was all over the other plates and napkins and really just was a bit messy so maybe some containers wit a better lid or even a large Styrofoam cup w lid. I have to say all in all i really enjoyed my meal and the lady inside was more than wonderful ❤ she was so nice it was very refreshing. So yes I recommend them and I'm going there again today so maybe another...
