FANTASTIC! we are in WI for work and decided we're gonna try as many supper clubs around us as we can while we're here in WI. This place is our first one and I was impressed! we were seated in less than 5 minutes, no reservations needed, that's great for a friday at 5pm. Guess we got there just in time! Next we were waited on promptly and recieved our beverages, appetizer, and dinners in a very timely manner and our waitress Christa was very attentive and came back 3 xs to check on us. We had the cheese curds for an appetizer, and the 14oz rib eyes with mushrooms, cole slaw and baby red potatoes for dinner. All were great! Best cheese curds and steaks we've had in quite a while! The steaks were flavorful, tender, and cooked exactly as we ordered. Did not need ANY A-1 or side condiment. The cole slaw was interesting. It was a lime green color and definitely home made. It had a nice vinegary kick to it, but not overpowering. It looked a lil juicer than I'd prefer, but it was still tasty and edible to the palate. I think they were going for a "seaweed" look as the establishment is beach themed, obviously-- the "Palms supper club" I knocked off 1 star because at some point in our dinner, "today's junk music" came on, so that was a turn off for the few minutes we had to listen to it. Believe me, we're not old, todays music does SUCK! The Palms does have a variety of music but when I'm eating one of the best dinners I've had in a while, that hip hop/ rap/ jicky jack crap makes you want to put a hammer thru the speaker to shut it off, especially if you're located right by a speaker.đ€Łđ. May I recommend some Jimmy buffet and reggae such as Bob Marley to add to your playlist to give it a more beachy feel to go with your beach theme, it can enhance the feeling that you're down south, as I am originally from FL, so I would know. It is definitely worth $100 we spent+ tip. The food and service was worth it! One more thing that only made it 4 star was that they dont have a big menu selection, but it's a supper club. Most supper clubs stick to a meat and potato/ seafood / specific veggie selections so keep that in mind. Read up on supper club history to better understand supper clubs and why they cater to specific dinners Definitely recommend this club! Just prepare yourself for a song or 2 to have to...
   Read moreI was pleasantly surprised!
My sister and her husband came down from Minoqua to see a Chicago concert yesterday and wanted to meet at The Palms. We have not eaten there in probably 15 years.
Great service (Krista). The soup (beef dumpling) and fresh warm bread before our entrees were fantastic. Would almost like to came back and just have all you can eat soup and bread. đ
I had the chicken ravioli and my wife the tenderloin. Mine was excellent. My wife loved hers and said she almost didnât need a knife to cut her steak. The au jus was right up her alley for dipping.
My brother in law had a huge rack of ribs. He liked them a lot and took half home. Wet wipes provided! This was my sisterâs 2nd trip to the Palms and is hooked on the tenderloin.
Twice managers (or owners??) stopped by and asked how the visit was going. They also personally thanked us for our business. I canât remember the last time that has happened.
Prices were moderate but well worth it when you consider the quality, quantity, and overall experience. Other upper end restaurants (like WISH) charge extra for soup or salad and potato.
The hand held device that Krista used to take our order was efficient. She even swiped our cards and we could chose the tip right there at the table.
Finally - I was impressed that they did not charge a fee for using our credit cards. I donât know where this trend started but more and more restaurants are charging a 3% fee for using a credit card. I rarely carry much cash anymore plus enjoy the perks I get back. If a restaurant desperately needs this surcharge to survive, then maybe they should not be in business!
A pleasurable experience all around. The Palmâs has now officially been placed on our restaurant...
Read moreWe went Sunday evening. Two of us ordered a brandy old fashioned sweet. It was hard to tell if there was alcohol in them, they tasted more like pop and bitters. We have old fashioneds at supper clubs all over Wisconsin, this was among the worst we have had because of the lack of brandy in the drink. The guests we were with ordered a rum drink and said it was very weak too. One other guest and I ordered the prime rib sandwich. They ask how you want it, he said medium I said med rare, they both came out well done and dry. The other two in our party ordered a filet, she said it was good, and shrimp she said the shrimp was good but the rice was mushy overdone.
Perhaps this is only a Sunday night issue, I donât know. It appears this restaurant asks in reviews if the customer complained or sent it back. The answer to that is 1. We had 2 hours to drive home so not wanting to wait, 2, more importantly, I feel restaurants and cooks who donât monitor their own quality better than this are likely to not respond well to food coming back and I am not interested in being their victim.
My advice to Palms management is do better, the newspaper article about being one of the best restaurants in America is a joke, based on my experience Palms isnât among the top 10 restaurants in Wausau.
Edit: Hi Anna, I read your comment. From one restaurant person to another, by being passive aggressive and dismissive toward honest critics of your restaurant is insurance you will not act on the information people are giving you. You can walk away all cavalier, or you can look at the review as an opportunity to improve, your choice. For every person who takes time to voice concerns 50 donât, and those 50 are not bashful about telling...
