A Disappointing Visit to a Once-Favorite Ice Cream Spot

I recently decided to treat myself to a scoop of Chocolate Almond ice cream at Lics in Vincennes. It had been years since my last visit, and I was looking forward to revisiting a place I once enjoyed. I ordered a single scoop on a sugar cone through the drive-thru, and while the $4.36 price tag was higher than I expected, I thought it would be worth it for a nostalgic treat.

Unfortunately, my experience didn’t live up to those memories. From the very first bite, I noticed something was off about the flavor. It wasn’t the rich, creamy taste I remembered—it had an unpleasant, almost greasy undertone. Puzzled, I returned to the store and went inside, where the source of the problem became obvious: the entire shop had a pungent smell of old grease, likely due to poor ventilation. It was clear that this smell had transferred to the ice cream, completely overwhelming its intended flavor.

I will say that the staff was polite and understanding when I explained the issue and promptly refunded my money, which I appreciated. Still, for the price of a single scoop (nearly what I’d pay for a half-gallon of store-bought ice cream), I had really hoped for a much better experience.

Luckily, there’s a Culver’s right across the street, so I ended up enjoying a delicious Chocolate Custard cone for a dollar less. The difference in quality and flavor was night and day.

I hope the owners of Lics take this feedback as an opportunity to address their ventilation and operational issues. This is a long-standing local business with a lot of potential, and it would be a shame to see it lose customers due to something that could be fixed. With some attention to these details, I believe they can restore the quality and reputation they’ve built...

Took kids to get an ice cream after my sons first T-ball practice. They had a picture of a smiley face cone and even asked us if we wanted a smiley face on our kiddie cones, which is what my kids were begging for. The picture showed a gummy worm smile with Oreo eyes and nose. We received our cones to find that the “smiley face” cones were simply a gummy worm thrown on top. When we asked why there was no smiley face and why the picture on the window showed different (not to mention my kids have gotten an actual smiley face there before) they said “that’s just an advertisement and whoever gave you that before would’ve been fired if our manager saw that.” She was very rude and unaccommodating. My husband and I went through Thursday May 25th in the late evening. I asked for a banana split, first they made it wrong, then while they were making it, the guy proceeded to scratch his head(no hairnet, no gloves) multiple times over the ice cream as he was making it. When my husband brought it to the woman’s attention she proceeded to say “Oh my god he wasn’t.
