Double D's Pub and Grub — Restaurant in Virginia Beach

Mixed review: I came in once on a Sunday afternoon and sat down at a table and almost immediately a nice waitress took our drink orders, told us the burger specials, and everything was terrific. Yeah it was a little dark and smoky but I that's what I expected since it's a dive, and I couldn't complain about anything because the burger was great and the draft beer was cold and cheap with good service and a pretty chill vibe, which was what I wanted.

The second time I came in on a Monday afternoon and sat at a table again. The bar was full and it was way smokier this time. As a former smoker I can usually deal with it but it was really thick. Then a few minutes later I realized there was apparently no wait staff on the Monday shift to come around and take my order, and I didn't feel standing around in the thicker smoke near the bar to order so I left.

I wouldn't rule out coming back again. I'd really like to give it a better score since I really enjoyed myself that Sunday, but I had to average out my 2 visits, one of which was a bust. Maybe you need to just show up on the right day if you're not a regular. Also the bathroom needs some attention, if you're worried about that...

I stopped in today with a friend for a late lunch. We had never been here before but saw the great reviews and decided to give it a shot. I am so glad we did! The owner Kelly greeted us when we arrived, and stopped by our table a couple times since it was a slow time of day to be sure we were enjoying our meal and to let us know about upcoming promotions.

She even let us sanple an app from her upcoming Valentines Day menu (heart shaped potato cakes with cheese sauce!)

We both ordered from the vast burger selection and enjoyed the fresh beef patties and house cut fries. Kelly takes great pride in her menu of freshly made soups, sides, and entrees. The effort comes through in the flavor and quality of each dish. We also ordered a house specialty cocktail "Grandma Darlas Special Long Island" it was tasty and potent!

I decided a few days ago I needed a run away mental break and took off to Virginia Beach for 1 night and a day. Upon exploring antique stores, I really needed to use the bathroom so we went next door. In the car me and my partner in crime discussed eating there since the sign said no public restrooms. I am so glad we decided to walk in and eat. The vibration and hospitality was amazing. The staff was extremely friendly and the food was AMAZING. Our server went by taco but I want to say I remember him saying his name was Jimmy but I could be wrong as we called him taco. We so appreciate the hospitality and service he gave us. We have talked about the pub for hours and was definitely a great stopping point in my mental adventure. I highly recommend anyone walking in and definitely ask for taco!...
