Korean BBQ — Restaurant in Virginia Beach

This place is a hole in the wall, and I don't mean that affectionately. In no way was this place designed to cook food at your table. There is no real ventilation above any tables, the tables are narrow enough and the hot plates big enough that it's super easy to burn yourself. The tables have grills inside but they still bring out a huge hot plate instead which the staff came over to about 10 times to turn down, twice timing it off completely while I was still cooking, probably because there's no ventilation in the room. The prices per plate were too expensive and didn't allow to mix and match if customers want different items. Cheaper and smaller portions would have been better instead of a giant plate of one item that some at the table may not want but too expensive to buy another dish if only one person wanted that. Speaking of the food it wasn't that great. The side dishes were kind of bland and way too small to share especially considering the amount of money we paid over all. I definitely won't be your tourney here. The restaurant was gross, felt very dirty, was too small and did not look like it was well prepared to be a Korean barbecue. The customer service was subpar almost to the point of incompetence. No one was able to explain anything about the dishes, we waited forever to get a server to come and give us drinks, and having some one reach over us every two minutes to turn our grill off was laughably frustrating. Finally there's a Korean barbecue restaurant in Virginia Beach! I would say this place is "better than nothing". The food is not really good but they are not bad.

When we went in the lady gave us the biggest smile while greeting us, and she was nice for the whole time.

We ordered the beef brisket for the barbecue and the spicy whitting fish soup.

Like other Korean restaurants, there are some small plates of unlimited appetizers. Once tou finish them, your server will ask you if you wanna refill any of them, or you can ask them to.

The beef brisket: There's another server who came and helped us to cook them. There's nothing special on them, it comes with some romaine and two sauce, one is a bit spicy one is salty. They are frozon when they arrived, but it tasted good tho.

The soup: It looks like it's gonna be hot because of the color but actually it's not too hot, you can ask for hotter or mild, we asked for medium. There's a strong smell of Kombu(seaweed Koreans and Japanese ppl like to use it to cook broth)in the soup. The size of the fish was fine but there's literally 1 shrimp, 1 big shell but small meat clam, and two pieces of tofu. The shell of the clam was cracked so I couldn't finish all the soup because the shred are all on the bottom.

Overall I would give 5 stars if the food was better because the server was too nice, and the prices...

I came here recently after learning that they started serving korean & korean bbq under new ownership (3 weeks?) Ive been spoiled by the endless korean bbq spots in NoVA & NYC, and although its not all-you-can-eat (yet?? I hope??), i would still return to this place for my fix! Ive never had their seafood, so I cant say much... but there is no othet place in Virginia Beach that offers korean food the way i remember. The price is reasonable for what you get, and the menu had so many dishes I missed having that I seriously wanted to order it all. The owner is super friendly & he came out to chat a bit about the menu & his upcoming plans.

Im so excited that i dont have to trek all the way out to Norfolk/NN/Hampton for other Korean spots, or have to plan a day or weekend trip up to NoVa anymore lol. Theyre in a hole-in-the-wall spot right next to Lynnhaven Mall across the Rite Aid, and I can def grab lunch here since i work at the mall. Btw... the seafood pancake is ON POINT, that i almost ate the whole thing by myself. Def recommend getting their bbq (pork belly being my fav) and if you have a group, get their Marinated Beef Bulgogi Hotpot!!!! Its PLENTY. The side dishes were delicious & tasted so fresh, and the dipping sauces? 2 thumbs up!!

Cant wait to see what else they add to the menu and if they make any other changes...
