I came early, like 3:45 4:00 before any rush of people on a Saturday might show up. There were only two tables filled and two people at the bar. It was much much smaller that I had anticipated but that didn't matter. The atmosphere, ambience is really cute and quaint with Island music playing and birds chirping. Very tropical, islandy vibe with bamboo covering the windows, hanging plants & coconuts. Very dimmly lit which I loved but so dim that I had to shine my flashlight on my phone at the menu to see it along with my reading glasses! Lol I am 63 so maybe somebody younger would have no problem. But, that didn't matter to me because it's was such a cute, cute place! This could be a very romantic place to have dinner for a couple!
I ordered the yellowfin tuna steak on a bed of Jasmine coconut rice pineapple and coconut slaw and cilantro lime crema on the side. i also tried the Blue Hawaiian cocktail. I didn't care that the rice was completely flattened instead of looking fluffy and delicious. I thought that presentation wasn't right. The coconut pineapple slaw was absolutely delicious and the crema for the tuna steak would have been delicious if it wasn't so terribly salty. I also did not taste any cilantro or lime. My tuna steak was a very generous portion and done to perfection (Rare) however, the very first bite I took was like eating a raw fish right out of the ocean! Unbelievably fishy tasting! I was starving so I ate 3/4 of it but mostly while holding my breath so I couldn't taste it. It was awful, absolutely awful! I did not care for my cocktail either as beautiful as it was. I don't know why because it was Puerto Rican rum, pineapple, coconut & blue curacao. Maybe I don't like Puerto Rican rum, I don't know but it had a taste in there that was just awful for me. But that's on me. I also held my breath while finishing that $13 drink that I wasn't going to waste. On me again.
While I was there I smelled cigarette smoke! Being a non-smoker who feels like they're suffocating when they smell cigarette smoke that was not good. It was brief maybe 5 minutes worth tops, but it was a big turn off. Don't know why or who but thankfully it didn't last long. I told the waitress (Megan) who was exceptionally nice that my steak was fishy and she said she would tell the cook. She came back and said It was probably just the cut of the tuna steak and it was fresh, She just took it out not long ago & she'll comp me 25%! While appreciative and after nearly eating all of it, Megan also offered to get me a different entree. But I was already full. Maybe I should have said something sooner but by the time she came back to ask me how my food was, I was nearly finished. I feel my meal should have been free because it was truly not edible & had I not been so hungry I would have never eaten it. It wasn't her fault though that the steak was fishy but when you're paying $18 for a tuna steak meal it should not be fishy, so I got $7 off my check which totaled $26 after the $7 was taken off.
Would I recommend it? Yes, I would & I'd try it again and just not eat the tuna steak! lol It is cute, it's close by, so it's convenient and I like the decor & they have other entrees I'd love to try. They do have a kids menu with the usual chicken tenders, grilled cheese & some regular menu dishes as well. The menu pretty much is self-explanatory with the name The Tiki Bar & Grill. It's food dishes are a Hawaiian type Polynesian style of cooking. They also do have burgers & the drinks range from $12 & up depending on the size.
The other thing I did not care for was my table was completely sticky. So bad that the menu was sticking to it! This tells me that the lacquer over the top was old and needed to be re-done or just replaced. It's bad when you put your forearms down on a table and they stick to it like glue. There is a bar at one side of it, decent size too. It's a cute little place & I will give it another try at some point. P.S. It's the lighting in the pictures that make my tuna steak look that color. There is no...
Read moreI'm not sure I understand how a Restaurant & Bar can be so inconsistent. We visited Tiki's for the first time a couple weeks ago. Things could not have been better. The food was great the drinks were awesome, and the service was great too. having loved it before we went again today, The server was clueless. The drinks were AWFUL! The food was uneatable. I ordered the Puka Punch to drink, and was served what a vile concoction of pineapple juice and bitters. Pretty sure there wasn't even rum in. My husband got a pina colada what was just pine apple juice and rum, and while that's an okay drink, it's not a pina colada, and certainly not worth 12 bucks. It took a super long time to get the drinks as the waitress that also served as bar tender couldn't work the blender. We ordered a lumpia starter, and it probably would have been delicious had it not still be ice cold in the middle. At this point I really wanted to leave, but we had already ordered our food we both got burgers, my husband thought his was just alright, I got the one eyed Jack burger the same thing I had the time before, and was really excited to eat it again as the first time I had it, it was very good. Today however, I'm not real sure what happened. It tasted like someone dumped a whole container of black pepper on it, I ate 3 bites, and was very sad. While we were there, we saw someone come in for an interview and sit for 30 minutes waiting to be interviewed. That is not a very professional thing to do. Most people would have walked out having to wait that long. I do hope you are interviewing bartenders, as your servers clearly have NO BUSINESS behind that bar. You need a dedicated bartender that not only can operate a blender, but can actually make a tiki cocktail. I really liked Tikis the first time, but today was so bad, I’m not sure we...
Read moreNot satisfying. First time here and last time as well. We walked in and the air conditioner was out. We are going through a heat wave and we wanted a cool spot to eat. Service was slow. And from listening to other customers there, we werent the only ones not satisfied. They bring your food out in silver bowls. They also brought out plates but for what I dont know. I felt like I was eating out of a pet bowl or a mixing bowl. The spam and rice my kids liked but you cant mess that up. It takes little skill. I ordered the bbq plate which is one short rib (cut up) and kalua pork, Kim chee with rice and mac salad. My mac salad was warm and tasted like it was left out for awhile to spoil. The kim chee was good. The portion of meat for the entree was tiny. Gave me a bunch of rice and it was over peppered and covered in green onion shavings. My wife ordered a loco moco. There was no gravy. The ground beef patty was cut up into chunks. Wasnt seasoned well enough and tasted burnt. Then we ordered a ube shake. Waitress leaves for 10mins comes back and tells us they are out of ube. Then the waitress goes to the table next to us and asks them for dessert. They pick the ube shake. And she explains they are out. So they choose something else and the waitress said sorry we are out. So the customer asked what do you have? Waitress said only the calamansi cake ( or whichever its called). So they asked why offer us all the dessert menu and you only have one item? She apologized and then left their table. Please get better prepared...
