Horrible! I wish I could give it negative stars. Actually, the service was good. Brandy tried to make the best out of a horrible situation. If I could give her five stars, I would and Angelo's son would also get some stars. So because of their actions, Angelo's get a star. We rented the banquet room to celebrate my mother's birthday and I'm just grateful our guests were gracious.
The food was beyond awful! They served the birthday girl, the honoree, my 70 year old mother a burnt entree. As guests we were treated similarly, our food was either burnt or cold, except for the soup which was lukewarm. They ran out of simple items like baked potatoes and people who ordered the same thing got something different e.g. ordered chicken tenders got chicken patties or chicken nuggets. Again, an item or two, we understand but all of one item was completely ruined.
The icing on the proverbial cake was the owner, Angelo. He seemed unable to comprehend that 23 guests would not make a huge fuss in the moment and that the hosts would wait until after the event to engage the manager about the issues. Especially when there was only server working the banquet room and she was also serving tables in the dining area. He got upset and stormed out of the room/conversation when I calmly explained our issue and rejected his notion that somehow everyone should have know they could ask the one waitress to bring them something different off of the menu at a catered event. His son calmly came into the room, listened and accepted our comprise which was still waaaaayyyy less than what we were due considering the level of issues with the food.
Needless to say we will never patronize Angelo's again and we will highly recommend that others also not patronize this establishment, especially for any...
Read moreThis is the first time I have visited Angelo's in several years. I used to go for the prime rib special every few months. The prime rib was always good with flavored au jus.
First before I review the meal, I will say the best thing about the meal was the salad and fries. The server was friendly but not too attentive. I suspect it was due to staff shortages.
I ordered a medium rib eye (10oz) and Hamburger Steak with Fried Onions and Gravy. I ordered both cooked medium. Our salads and drinks arrived promptly. It was another 40 minutes before our food arrived. The rib eye was a thin cut, no more than 1/2 inch. A 1 inch cut of rib eye is normally 10 to 12 ounces. This ribeye was a small breakfast cut, probably more like 6 to 8 ounces. I consider $19 for a small breakfast steak a bad deal unless, of course, you are talking about Prime grade. The ribeye was not anything near prime grade and calling it choice grade would be pushing it. The ribeye steak was well done, dry, and bland. The hamburger steak was also well done, dry and bland. The gravy did not help at all. $1.50 extra for fried onions that were not carmelized. Neither the ribeye nor the hamburger steak was salted or seasoned before cooking resulting in a poor quality and overcooking.
You have to salt and pepper beef before it is cooked. No amount of seasoning will make the steak better once it is cooked without salt. Salt also helps dry the outer layer making it easier to sear and lock in the juices. The gravy on the hamburger steak had not flavor to it. It reminded me of the gravy they gave me in the hospital when I was in the cardiac ward.
I would give the fries and salad a 5 star rating. The main meal (steaks) I give a 2...
Read moreThe "Greekburger" was so delicious, I'm a little ashamed to complain, but complain I must. Call it a "PSA" for you readers.
From work I phoned in an order for the sandwich (no sides!) plus an "unsweetened" (= plain) iced tea. I arrived earlier than the predicted pick-up time, so I paid while waiting. The bill came to $10.87. At first, I didn't question the total (wasn't handed a receipt; it had been stapled to the paper bag holding my napkins, etc.).
The cashier was very pleasant, checked on my order a few times (I tipped her). Meanwhile, I started to doubt the accuracy of the bill I just paid. A young man (son of the owners?) brought my order out to the cashier's counter and with menu in hand, I shared my concerns. Sure enough, I had been charged for those french fries that everyone assumes must be served by law at every single meal. (They're delicious but I am trying to avoid them.) The young man himself admitted the restaurant's error, offered to bring out some french fries to make it right, but since I was ready to eat lunch, I said no thanks. He also admitted that it was odd that the sandwich alone was only a dollar cheaper than the combo. So, in that sense, the fries would have been a bargain. But a dollar is a dollar, and after all was said & done, he never did refund me!
Alas, even at an old standby like Angelo's, a customer is well-advised to verify every step of the way.
P.S. I'm no psychic, but after feeling that this whole episode was "cursed," I just knew that the tea I finally tasted back at my desk would be the wrong one. I was right! It was as sweet as...
