Anna’s has been serving Gloucester County and the surrounding area as THE “Italian” eatery for decades. Inside you’ll find that they provide a warm atmosphere, with murals reflective of the local lifestyle, welcoming staff, and decorum that is asking for an upgrade.
Upon arrival you’re met with the aroma of onions and yeast that is a pleasant reminder of the ingredients you’ll soon be acquainted with. The unabashedly Americanized style of Italian cuisine is satisfying but lacking the freshness one can expect from the truly artisanal style that is authentic Italian food. While access to fresh ingredients is presumably available, one can guess the desire to reduce overhead takes precedence, and it can show.
The pizzas are made with a hand tossed dough, a labor of love you can witness firsthand, and are kissed by fire producing a nice crisp one will enjoy. A simple tomato sauce is used, but joins well with the crust once introduced to your choice of the few available toppings.
The submarine sandwiches are made with the typical combination of white bread that, when baked perfectly, delivers the crispy, slightly chewy, and dense bite. You’ll find a simple selection such as the meatball and marinara, philly steak and cheese, and the universal but classic Italian sub. When built with care, these subs are perfect for satiating you’re hunger and taste buds. When combined in haste, you’ll fill up on bread instead.
Although Anna’s isn’t serving up a grandeur fare of Italian foodstuffs, it is but a small taste of the world beyond Gloucester.
All in all, if you walk in expecting an Epicurean feast, you’ll leave in utter disappointment. Instead, when treated as a decent meal that can be enjoyed with your selection of good company, you’ll get the full...
Read moreIt hurts to give this place such a low review but it has been going down hill since June. The food quality is subpar and the service is pathetic.
Tonight as I waited behind the only person in line so I can order, 4 of the young employees were having a blast socializing and one was messing up the bill of the woman in front of me. The woman asked for a togo pizza box, the young lady got the box, socialized, put paper in the box, socialized, got the sauce cup, socialized then gave her the items. She couldn't even bring it to the customer's table? Why? Why make the woman wait while you are chatting with friends instead of doing your job? And if a someone was actually tending to the customers, the customer could have asked for the box from the table.
Anyways, my turn, the young lady walked right past me, turned around as a after thought and asked "you picking up". I was not, so she said "so you want.....". I wanted to order and the young lady snapped about to go order or not.
I am not even going to finish because her behavior was the same as the other young adults that were working there.
All you hear is a bunch of teens laughing and joking when you walk in and see no one working. Let alone checking on the customers seated! They have to come to the counter to get a employee to pay attention to them!
They use canned mushrooms, canned sauce (not sure, however it is runny and tasteless) and...
Read moreThis business is one of the few if not the only one in the community that is not taking extra steps to keep the patrons of the community safe during the Covid 19 pandemic. They are not enforcing mask wearing for the patrons who are standing on line to pick up orders, place orders or waiting to be seated. Unlike the rest of restaurants the community the are not offering curbside pick up. They are seating people in the area where everyone is standing on line. There is one employee and one register for cash, cards, pick ups, and even the patrons dinning in. They are not taking all payments,if any at all, at the table for dine-in customers. I spoke to management and they said they are following the Governor's guidelines within the establishment and curbside service is not mandated so they don't have to provide this service. They make good pizza but not so good that I am willing to risk my safety and everyone else's in the community. Until they mimic the safety precautions similar to Little Italy, Tony and Malina's, Little Ceasars, Pizza Hut and all the other restaurants are providing, I will not be patronizing Anna's on Main...
