I wasn't going to post this originally but I've since had a change of heart. Last Sunday Kevin and I went to a comedy show in short pump, a comedian Kevin really started to like since doing dialysis (a past time while doing treatment) Christian Johnson Ent. was in town and I thought that would be the perfect surprise for Kevin, so I purchased tickets.
Unfortunately while walking the shopping center, enjoying the weather, Kevin became ill... He started getting dizzy and then he started vomiting outside in the courtyard, I was scared, concerned etc .. I was able to get him seated and he started asking for cold water ... I'm frantically looking around and I see Starbucks ... I walk inside and it's packed, cool... I asked the people waiting for their order if they minded me going to the front to ask for water because my husband was really sick and needed it ... They were all okay with it.... I got to the serving counter, I asked the employee who was the closest if I could get water, my exact words were " hey, excuse me, my husband is outside sick, he's in stage 4 kidney failure and is having a really bad episode, can I please get a cup of ice water" (I shared the details because I was frantic) .. he looked at me and said "you have to get in line" .. I said "Sir, I'm just trying to get ice water and hurry back to my husband" .. he replied again with " okay, well that's policy, get in line".... I was like alrighty, as I went to walk out, a customer who was waiting for her order said "wow, that's disgusting, I'm getting a refund, for my order because that was horrible"... She then suggested that I try the Capital One Café across the courtyard, and I did... I walked in there, said the same thing, the lady was like " oh my God yeah, let me get that for you, she went to the counter, asked one of the workers behind the counter for a large cup of ice water and expressed to them that she needed it quickly.... I thanked her, she said no problem she sent well wishes to Kevin ....
My sister ended up calling me to check on Kevin and I told her what happened, my sister who's employed by capital one asked me to go back and get the ladies name so that she can send her an employee gift through their system ...
I really don't know the overall purpose of me posting this, I just felt like it needed to be shared .. we have to watch who we give our money to and who we DON'T give our money to ...
I know for me, Starbucks at short pump won't be seeing me again...
(Picture of Kevin I took when my sister wanted to see how he was doing)
And shout-out to the young lady at the Capital One Cafe short pump location..
I believe her name was Emily but I could be wrong... But she...
Read moreThe Capital One Cafe is a really neat little place. I've come here to get banking done (I switched from BoA), get work done, or just pick up some coffee and chat with friends. I think the idea is to make it more of a community center, and it accomplishes it quite well. On nice afternoons and on weekends there's usually a decent hubbub, and in the spring and summer it's super nice with the doors all open.
It's much cleaner and refreshing than any of the Starbucks nearby, with interesting, bright architecture, spacious seating, and lots and lots of outlets and charging ports. I've seen lots of families here as well as quite a number of business people hanging out. They have some games for kids (like Jenga) and there are also meeting spaces that you can reserve in the back.
The bank personnel don't necessarily have in-depth knowledge about every product, but they will work with you to get what you need done. We had a complication with our joint checking account when I was trying to add my husband as a user and they called in for me, explained the issue, and worked to resolve it with me. I also appreciate that I've never felt like they've tried to sell me a service, which is uncommon for the banks that I've previously been a part of.
This is not like a dedicated co-working space though. The atmosphere is upbeat and vibrant, and I think that's on purpose, because it's meant to be a friendly, inviting space, so if you're looking for a silent place, this is not it. (that said, to those complaining about noise - Starbucks are just as loud... only super small coffee shops are not, and this is in a...
Read moreThis past Saturday we met some family at Short Pump to celebrate my daughter’s birthday. After walking around in the 95 degree heat we decided to chill out in the Capital One Cafe like we have many times before. We were warmly greeted by a lovely young man who offered us the use of a large table. He graciously comped our drinks and congratulated my daughter on her birthday. He stopped by several times to ask if we needed anything. We did offer him a piece of birthday cake in return but he politely declined. He then gave us all a bag of goodies in honor of mental health awareness month. We mentioned my daughter is a mental health counselor. Little did he know that mental health issues affect many in our family. It was nice to be acknowledged, but it’s also important Capital One and their employees are supporting such an important cause. I would like to thank that young man for his kindness, compassion,...
