Limited menu, long wait for takeout, food is nothing special. Stopped in on a Wednesday afternoon around 11:30 to get a couple takeout omelets. With a name like Eggs Up, I was surprised there wasn't more of an omelet and egg selection on the menu.
I ordered the Greek omelet ($10) and Veggie omelet ($10). I didn't appreciate the fact the receipt the hostess asked me to sign had the tip amounts listed and she stood there staring at me sign it. I didn't plan to tip much, if anything, because it was a takeout order. For the record, I don't tip at McDonald's or Chick Fil A for takeout service either.
The restaurant was about half full and there seemed to be ample staff, including cooks in the kitchen... plus it was a Wednesday... not one of the busier days for breakfast restaurants I would think.
Still, it took almost a half hour to get my takeout food, and the order wasn't big or complicated. At one point, I saw what looked like my order on the ready line, but the hostess told me she wasn't permitted to leave the hostess stand to get it for me. (Why again was I asked to tip??)
I live just a mile away, but when I got home, the toast was cold & hard so I tossed most of it. The "home fries" were greasy and forgettable, and the two omelets were nothing to write home about.
Seems most reviewers like this restaurant so maybe Eggs Up does a better job with dine-in customers, because the takeout experience is the pits.
Fortunately we're blessed with a lot of breakfast restaurants within a mile or two of Eggs Up. I'm guessing I'll end up at one of...
Read moreEXCELLENT pulled BBQ pork sandwich with bacon, swiss cheese, a REALLY nice BBQ sauce, and an absolutely DELICIOUS bacon jam (I wasn't sure what that WAS, or if I'd like it, but it was fantastic...it's hard to describe, but it's sort of like the flavor you get from sauted onions (which are definitely in it), with kind of a smoky hit from the bacon and a slight sweetness from whatever it is that makes it a "jam," probably HFCS lol). It also had a few pickles, which I normally don't enjoy on sandwiches, but in this case they imparted a flavor that reminded me of a Cuban Melt.
It was served on (I think) some kind of garlic bread (it looked like it could've been sourdough with garlic salt added), which was buttered and grilled to PERFECTION (golden brown all over on both sides, the sandwich ingredients were melted all the way through and fused together via the cheese, it was piping hot and steaming when it came out of the kitchen, and the bread was crunchy, crispy, and buttery when biting into it, WITHOUT being burnt at all on any part of either slice). I wish I'd thought to take a photo, because it was a very pretty sandwich! Alas, I did not, because I don't normally take the time to do these :).
THAT'S how awesome this sandwich was...it inspired me to overcome my inertial laziness long enough to write...
Read moreUpon entering this restaurant and waiting to pick up my family's to go order, the Hostess greeted a young lady and her mother before my son and I. The sad part is we were already standing there. The young lady and her mother was courteous enough to let the hostess know that we were there first and that's when she came to us, and she still said she would check on the to go order after the fact. Once the order was ready and she informed me that I could go pay, I proceeded to head to the check out area. The young lady who took my payment snatched my debit card; which I thought was kinda rude. Then she went on to say "oh you are supposed to have a drink also." By that time I was really ready to go and I wanted to maintain my composure, so I just said yes. I got the drink, food, receipt, and left. I don't know if it was a busy morning but I'm guessing maybe it was. I hope this does not happen to anyone else because Eggs up Grill appears to be a nice atmosphere, it looks like it is up and coming, and the food was good but I did not take pictures because I was very disappointed in the level of customer service displayed by the two employees whoever they were. I would like to return and have a better experience but I'm not sure if there will "ever" be a next time. Hopefully, this is used as a training...
