First visit here. The El Grand Squirto in Stafford went in the dumper so we're trying other Mexican places. This is an out of the way Mexican restaurant in a mostly vacant strip mall behind Giant grocery. Place is clean and decor is very nice. We were seated promptly. Down hill after that. The salsa that came with the chips was watered down tomatoes and cilantro. We were not provided any napkins or eating utensils when seated and had to ask the waitress for them when our meal was served. The wife ordered her shrimp chimmchimichanga soft with refried beans. It was served fried with rice. That was replaced with no apologies. Shrimp was cooked properly but the dish lacked any seasoning/flavor. My beef chimichangas were one ground beef and the other beef strips. The strips were tough and both had the same lack of flavoring. The refried beans were almost liquid with no flavor. The two waters both had a musty aftertaste. No sign of our waitress during the meal and no drink refills. We waited for over 10 minutes to get our check and had to stop the hostess to get it who appeared bothered by event but processed the transaction. Our impression was the wait staff just didn't care and the food was poor.
*Note this review was completed without using ridiculous undiscriptive terms like OMG, awesome, yummy, delish, to die for, do your self a favor, trust me, etc.. Describe the food, service (or lack of) and provide details on the cost/copy of check and include pictures! Is the place clean? No one cares about the waiter/waitress names, their abilities, or if they look like they fell face first into a tackle box. They get changed like underwear and you don't get to pick one. No we don't care about your allergies or the need for...
Read moreThe strikes are all about the food. The chips and salsa we're good. The place is steeped in traditional Mexican flare ( horse paintings, Aztecs, pueblito style everywhere). Where it falls flat is where it matters most, the food. This place is NOT for those that know what Mexican food is supposed to taste like. Their chalupa was just a friend flour tortillas with ground beef and toppings, the taco salad was really sad looking, the lettuce was so wilted my dad couldn't eat more than a few bites, my daughter wouldn't even eat the miserable excuse for a chicken taco... If you like Pancho Villas, you'll like this place too. If you know and love real Mexican food, don't come here, don't let the super Mexican name and decor fool you. If you still go, don't say you weren't warned. Aside from that, the staff was friendly and attentive. Our server seemed to be aware about the food situation and tried to suggest some alternatives but we weren't going to pay for new entrees after the first...
Read moreI really want to like this place, considering it is one of the few places to eat within walking distance. The food was good enough, i ordered the lunch special #8 (which i guess was uninspired enough to cause me to forget what it was in less than 5 days) and three tacos which were also pretty ok. The chips and salsa were also ok, they were warm. I did enjoy the freedom to use their salsa bar to combine different flavors to cater to my precise tastes. The main problem, which to be honest I would have probably rated this restaurant 4-5 stars had i not experienced: A) i dont expect the wait staff to do somersaults to the table, but the gentleman seemed almost dismissive, and we were soon to find out that this would color the rest of our experience; B) it really isnt that hard to keep the chips and drinks filled up, you really can take a break from holding the wall up; C) circle back around within 2-3 minutes to see if everything is okay after the meal...
