It's been a year since my first review and what an improvement!!
Great steak dinner tonight! $35 for 2 people.
It's "Smokehouse Specialties" Night at Golden Corral, and no this isn't Prime or Kobe or aged to perfection, but it is straightforward good quality steak that's grilled the way you want it for a price you can afford. And if you're really hungry there's an endless supply for you.
If you don't like steak there's roasted chicken, a taco bar, Bourbon Chicken, pizza selections, a big salad bar, meatloaf mashed potatoes, etc. And they let the cooks create specials sometimes. Tonight the grill master had a rosemary marinated sirloin that was so flavorful with notes of the featured herb and buttery and perfectly cooked I'll remember it always. Definitely wasn't expecting this pleasant surprise.
Yes! This IS Golden Corral. This is not Ruth's Chris but im telling you at $35 for 2 people for all you can eat steak, ribs and other homemade excellent offerings, (most items here are homemade on premises) I'll come here any day over a $250 dinner on white table cloths. I'd maybe come back just for the delicious yeast rolls!
They have special nights scattered throughout the year, and they told me this coming Tuesday night, Dec 19th 2017, kids eat for $2.99, and Mrs Cause will be here.
Golden Corral is truly a representation of the Melting Pot of America, with a great mix of people in a family environment to go along with the great selection of food they have to satisfy just about every pallet. It's straightforward American Cuisine managed by people who do care and do listen to critique with a mindset of constantly improving. The servers hustle like nobody's business and have that southern charm missing so much in chain establishments these days.
I can't bring myself to dipping anything in the chocolate fountain but I'll definitely be bringing myself back for another dip into this...
Read moreI decided to try golden coral for a Valentine's dinner. Bad decision. Walking in, I realized that there had been no building updates since I had first come here as a child. The place is technically clean but...it's obviously seen better days, with the interior seeming dingy, and some kind of lingering smell everywhere. Moving on to the food, in my opinion there's a small selection for the price, but even more disappointing is the quality and taste. Overall, the food is very bland, not always hot (though I understand that comes with the territory of a buffet), greasy, and just plain disappointing. The taco bar, while in theory a great choice, was ghastly. Neither meat choice was very seasoned, and the salsa topping may have been spicy but not flavorful. The fried chicken was decent on the outside, but the meat was dry and flavorless. The made to order steaks were cooked well, but not really seasoned. Ribs looked boiled and tasted generic. Pizza is barely average. But at least the baked potatoes and sweet potatoes are good, no toppings though. The dessert section to me is anemic, but kids may enjoy it. Also, the chocolate fountain was closed and covered with a tarp, which was a disappointment.
Overall, this place seems to cater to two groups: families and seniors. Everyone else, especially adults craving good food for cheap, stay away. There aren't many vegetarian or vegan options if you're looking for that either. There's better places elsewhere in Richmond and...
Read moreEvery once in a while you want to eat at a place with a wide variety of food at one stop. Golden Corral is about an hour away, but it's worth the drive. I love brown beans and corn bread. My wife loves pot roast. These are mouth watering at Golden Corral always. If you're in the mood for something else, most of it is at Golden Corral as well. We're senior adults and automatically get a discount off the posted meal price. They have a wide variety of desserts as well. They don't serve alcohol as far as I know. We don't drink. You can eat as much or as little as you wish for one fair price. They have waitresses to refill drinks, answer questions, or help in other ways, but you serve yourself, so you don't have to leave a big tip, but the service is good, so you may want to leave a good tip as well. I noticed they had added carry out meals to their menu this visit. Their yeast rolls are melt in your mouth. Everything was tasty. I wish I lived closer. Their large open dining area with a high roof was comfortable and not too noisy even though there was a fairly large crowd on our Saturday afternoon visit. I've very rarely had to stand in line going in. Eat there. I believe you'll love the home cooked tastes of the buffet. I noticed the tables were a fair distance apart and the public spaces were wide and fairly open, even at a busy time of day for...
