This was my 1st and probably my last time here. I ordered the 4pc chicken dinner which comes with 1 side, a slice of cake, and a drink... first off that cost $21 do I think the portions were right for $20 absolutely not I should've been able to get second side free. The taste of the food was subpar. The macaroni WAS NOT hot it was lukewarm and it tasted just like macaroni and cheese with minimal seasoning. The chicken....the breading was seasoned great and fried nice except it was kinda burnt tasting and the actual neat of the chicken itself lacked flavor as to say they don't season the meat as well as the flour but hey it was hot. Whew chy the cake you thought this review was getting better I'm sorry to inform you the lemon cake was a COMPLETE letdown for me. Instead of tasting like lemon cake it tasted like dry yellow cake with a light lemon tasting frosting with candied lemon pieces in it..best thing for $21 the fountain drink. Don't expect chick fil a service either. When I arrived I was greeted and asked how could they help me I informed them I wasn't ready but mid me ordering the phone rings and as I take 2 seconds to make a choice about something the lady proceeds to take another customers order in the middle of mine. Now by all means get your money but I don't like that if you are servicing me than I should have your attention because what if I had questions about the menu it wouldn't ha e mattered because in that moment the phone order took presidency over mine. It is take out only so don't...
Read moreAlways heard good things about this place, mainly because of their fish. But it's called Hawk's BBQ, so I decided to give their barbecue a try. Needless to say, I was not impressed. I went to the location on Midlothian turnpike. I came in and there was a single old lady slicing and packaging a piece of cake. She said nothing to me until she had finished. Then she simply stood at the register and asked what I wanted. I ordered the small BBQ sandwich (cole slaw & hot sauce) lunch special, which included fries and a drink. Total price came out to $7.50 plus tax. Took about 5 or 6 minutes for the food to be ready. The drink that comes with the lunch combo is the smallest size they have. You would think for $7.50, you could at least get a medium size, if not large size drink. The fries were nice and hot and tasted ok. The sandwich was rather small. i mean, it said small sandwhich combo, but for $7.50, I was expecting a bigger small sandwich. Tastewise, it was unimpressive. Not really sure if they are supposed to be Carolina style or what, but i would not go back (for the BBQ). There's a place about a mile or 2 down the street called Q that serves a much larger and better tasting sandwich for a similar price and the drink refills are free. Even the BBQ sandwich at Cookout was better tasting and...
Read morePros: friendly, smiling counter service even during a steady-business lunch hour. Cons: I had the BBQ sandwich, which I WANT to say was simply forgettable except that it's memorable for being particularly blech: mushy, not a hint of smoky barbecue flavor, and doused in the very tomatoey sauce. It costs 5.95 and wasn't nearly as good as Cook Out's barbecue sandwich (which itself is nothing to write home about!), but for that price at Cook Out you get two sides and a drink or a float. I didn't try any sides. I'd been holding off on visiting this restaurant because of so-so online ratings, and now that I've tried it, I'll probably not go back. As a caveat, it does seem some of the other reviews say their OTHER food is pretty good...but to me, if you don't get the basics right--and the basics at a barbecue joint is ribs or a pulled pork sandwich, like spaghetti at a red sauce Italian place--I'm not gonna bet on your...
