I ordered some takeout including orange chicken with fried rice (which was an additional charge because the orange chicken only comes with steamed rice). I paid with a debit card and the man at the register asked me if I wanted my receipt twice - before and after he charges the card which I replied "yes" to both times. Thought that was strange since the customer copy is where you write in the tip.
I asked for hot sauce (which is their house made sauce with some sort of chopped chiles inside which looked great but when I opened it at home it smelled old and tasted terrible (most likely fermented since it was visibly pulled from a room temp cabinet).
Our "fried rice" was just steamed rice with soy sauce and a tiny price of chopped egg placed ON TOP of the takeout container. I called to let them know that the fried rice they charged is extra for was not at all fried rice and the gentleman tried to convince me (and I quote), "oh we just call it fried rice, but like...it's just rice with a little soy sauce and egg."
This was not our first disappointing experience with House of Chou. Not a fan of the food quality or service. The orange chicken was good and the...
Read moreThis place had my taste buds on a yo-yo! The dishes went from oh wow, this is so tasty (crab rangoon) to ok (frozen/pre made Dumplings) to eww, what were they thinking? (chicken w/ eggplant) to this is excellent, (combination lo mein). What happen to the Chicken w/ Eggplant you ask? Well, it was MIA, I was curious to try this dish even more, since after I put in my order, the lady at the front came by to ask if I was okay with the Eggplant being "breaded", to which I responded, "regular bread crumbs or panko?" She proceeded to describe the coating on the General Tso's Chicken... "so you mean a batter?" I exclaimed in curiosity. Ok, I guess I'll try it... After splitting open three pieces of the item which were supposed to be the Eggplant, little or near to none was in there, it was mostly batter, clumps of batter, sorry, not the best dish, couldn't eat it, and they took it back. The wait staff, especially Pedro and Maria are awesome, they are very attentive and always come by to check if you need anything. I will be going back, as they have a large menu, and they never had the Spicy Wontons. The house chili sauce...
Read moreI ordered the orange "beef" which was good sized lightly breaded soy chunks in a super flavorful sauce(not greasy). I was blown away by the texture of the protein, spot on(to chicken) and no weird aftertaste. My Husband wasn't sure at first which "chicken" was his(he eats meat sometimes). The broccoli in it was cooked very well, soft in the right places with slightly crunchy stems and there were around 8-10 florets while still plenty of "chicken". There was also orange peel in the sauce which was a nice touch. The white rice was PERFECT, not mushy, dry, or stale tasting. Beware though, on their menu they have spring rolls and vegetable rolls. Choose the vegetable rolls if you're vegan or vegetarian as the regular spring rolls have ground pork in them. Over all it was a great price and value with plenty of options to choose from. I love this place and was left feeling truly satisfied. It's definitely our new go to when craving this sort of take out! Up next I'd like to try the sesame "chicken". Give these guys a shot! Thanks House of Chou for doing...
