Hunan Wok — Restaurant in Virginia

This used to be my favorite place growing up for Chinese. I’ve recently come back to the midlothian area on a break from college and have gotten hunan wok twice since being home and both times left me disappointed and I will not be returning. The service is quick and I remember the food being really good, but the first time I ordered, I got the lunch special beef lo mein and ended up throwing 75% away because it tasted like it had been sitting out for hours and was cooked in rancid oil. I thought it was just an off day for them, so I gave them a second try. The next time was a month and a half later, I got sesame chicken combo plate that came with rice and an egg roll and dumplings. The chicken was lacking flavor and the breading so thick and soggy that it was just not enjoyable to eat. The same goes for the dumplings. There was like a 1/4 cup water in the bottom of the takeout dish and the dumpling wrappers themselves were so waterlogged they were falling apart. Overall, the whole meal lacked flavor. What happened to this place? In the past I would have given Hunan Wok 5 stars, but not last night. They are a bit far from our house, so it had been about a year since we had gone there. In the past, they could always be depended on for exceptional food. Łast night we ordered a couple of spicy chicken dishes and requested that they be made extra spicy. We also requested a couple of orders of Hot and Sour Soup. The chicken in both orders was extremely overcooked (to the point of being leathery) and neither of the chicken dishes were spicy, much less extra spicy. The soup also wasn't spicy. They were so mild that I ended out tasting some of the pre-packaged hot sauce just to make sure that I hadn't lost my sense of taste. (That was hot.) Last night my boyfriend and I had order dinner like we have many times before. We ordered our usual order of sesame chicken for him and lo mein for me. We had long day and mistakenly ate an late dinner then when to bed early. In the middle of the night around 3:30am my boyfriend ran to the and threw up. Because he was the only one who had the chicken but we shared everything else but what he threw up was the chicken. We will no longer be spending our money here the food isn't worth the risk at all.
