Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is I dont have enough experience here to know what the service is like consistently over several orders. I just happened to be nearby at the hospital, I dont usually buy food here. The only other time I did, as I recall, I was happy they had a bowl or salad version of the sandwiches for low carb diets, which I was on at the time.
This recent experience was great. At about 11:30 they weren't very busy, so it didn't take too long for them to get to my sandwich, even though there was a 4 large sub internet order and another guy ahead of me.
The gentleman finishing the original Italian I ordered, made the sandwich pretty much exactly how I wanted, best he could given the system they have. I wanted mayo spread on the bread but only got it on one side because their system has a preparer stacking the meats on the bread ahead of him. He would have had to flip that part of the sandwich over, pull the bread off of the meat to spread mayo on that side then get it flipped back over, or somehow remove the meat from the bread. I understand why he didn't, thats the way the system is set up for him.
The gentleman asked if I wanted it "Mikes way"...I thought he said "microwaved"! After clearing that up and getting an explanation of what that means, I asked for "my way". I saw Mike's way ahead of me. Why would you splash oil and vinegar over a sandwich that already has sliced tomatoes on it that deflect the oil and vinegar mostly off the sandwich to the cutting board? I saw him have to scrape most of those liquids off the board in to the trash before making my sandwich!...Silly.
The proper way to make a sub like this is mayo spread on both sides of the bread, lettuce and onion (unless you are one of those weird people who dont like onions) on top of the meat and cheese, then oil and vinegar (the lettuce helps hold the liquids), then jalapenos, THEN tomatoes followed by salt and pepper! ...and oregano if that's your thing. That's my way!
The gentleman was very polite and happily made it my way and it was a great hoagie. I think their base sandwich here may have more meat to start with than Subway. I always have to order 50% more meat for a similar sub there, otherwise the amount of meat is pathetic. When I got to my vehicle and reached to sit the packaged sandwich down, I noted how heavy it felt. I was very satisfied with what was about a 6" sub...I cant recall what they call it.
The sandwich came out to over $11...ouch, but the equivalent at Subway with 50% more meat (no way to weigh the meats to know the true comparison unless one buys both the same day, take them home, break them down and weigh the meat) comes to over $12. It's expensive everywhere. I dont know how some people are affording to eat takeout these days since we are hammered on prices...
Read moreOrdered a gluten free sub online. Went in to pick it up and I was early so I was watching the sub being made. They had an assembly line going and my GF sun was passed down with the regular subs. So the person cutting and wrapping the subs didn’t change her gloves and had her hands all over my GF sun after touching regular bread. She went to hand it to me and I told her I wasn’t taking that sub, she had her hands all over it. She said she didnt know it was GF. I said to the person who passed her my sandwich that maybe he should have told her it was a GF sun. He got all pissy on me telling me “I made your sandwich right!!! Don’t come at me!” The lady turned around and said I’ll make you another one. I said “no, just give me a refund”. No, I’m making you a new one. I said honestly I just want a refund. So she calls out the “manager”. The manager comes out and says to me in this aggressive tone “It was a MISTAKE, maam. We all make mistakes!” Then proceeds to tell her staff that she’s sick of these people. OK. How about “Gosh, maam, I’m so sorry this happened. Here, let me give you a card for a free sub. We’d love it if you came back and gave us another try.” Nope. This girl wins the award for worst customer service ever. This location is about 20 minutes from me. The Merchant Walk location is 30 minutes from me. I make the drive to Merchant Walk every time now because the service there is incredible. See my review of their location where almost the same situation happened yet was...
