"Washington, DC: How to Keep It Fresh After Visiting Countless Times"

I really want to give Kabob Palace a five stars rating. The food is definitely a five stars. But after waiting for our food over an hour, we weren’t as excited about our dinner anymore. While we were waiting, there were two other angry customers fed up with the wait and demanded to have their money back. The owner needs to come up with a new plan for ordering and pickup process. Due to overwhelming popularity, the restaurant was packed on Saturday at 8:30 PM. Between people waiting to place order and people waiting for food, there weren’t much room to move around. It was kind of chaotic since people were confused where the line is. People started to line up on both side in front of the register. People picking up their food were mixed with people waiting in line in the narrow area in front of the kitchen. I recommend to setup a ordering station where the tea and water is, that way customers can place their order as soon as they walk into the restaurant. If there is a line, the line can be outside of the restaurant. It is also a good marketing for the business. People can order their vegetables side options when they place the order, so they don’t have to be in front of the food window when picking up the food. The current process works when the restaurant is not busy. Customer can see the side and pick their side vegetable dish when picking up the food. Since this is kind of like a fast food restaurant, food is served on the disposable plates. It would be easier just serve the food on the to go boxes, have plastic bags on the side where customers can grab on their own. It will save time for the kitchen staff.

How was Kabob Palace? HOW WAS KABOB PALACE? Kabob Palace is the best restaurant in Crystal City. The food was tremendous. The service was terrific. The atmosphere was that of the splendid ocean of stars that overlooks the heavens themselves. The God of Abraham could work together with the Greek Pantheon and the host of Gods praised in ancient Egypt, but they would only be able to scrape together one tenth of the restaurant that Kabob Palace is. Truly a place where the finest of food is served, and with such care and precision that they could be awarded all three of their long deserved Michelin stars at once. Every prominent world leader should share a meal together at Kabob Palace. I make no exaggeration when I say that I believe Kabob Palace could truly bring world peace. The succulent grilled lamb would bring upon them such a revelation of what is true and dear to their hearts that they would have to declare armies and advanced weapons obselete. If you take your paramour to Kabob Palace, they will marry you as surely as the rides roll in. If you take your pregnant wife to Kabob Palace, your newborn will be not only healthy, but destined for an auspicious life of success and great contribution to society. If you bring Kabob Palace to the sick, they will be far beyond the reach of death, for they will be restored to perfect health. In short, they are the best restaurant in the city, always visit when in the tristate area, and always order extra naan.

Went here last night. Ordered at 9:20PM - didn’t get handed my food until 10:05 - after approaching the register and demanding a refund. Food was good; generous portions at a reasonable price. But the place was a total cluster. Full to the brim - jam packed. It wasn’t full when I ordered. But after I saw dozens come and go, while also observing others complaining they’ve “been waiting an hour and a half” - I realized there was a problem. It seems like delivery drivers come in and speak to the cooks first hand and get priority. While others who waited in line are left to wait for their number to be called. I was number 86. I waited 20 minutes and they were only in the 60’s. When I finally complained after 45 minutes of waiting, they were only in the 70’s. I’m sure I would have been waiting another 45 minutes if I didn’t say something. And they were not short on staff. There were at least 3 cooks and 3 expos putting the orders together - and several other staff running around. The place was clean considering the crowd coming in and out. I’ll give them credit for that. But they have a severe issue with getting orders out in any timely manner. I certainly won’t step foot in there again. Food qualify was good, and portion sizes were generous. But certainly not worth the wait. And for the record, the guy who ordered in front of me (number 85) was just as mad as I was - he complained when I did. The cashier we complained to just looked at our receipts and grabbed a box of food certainly bound for someone else, served us our sides, and we were out of there. For the life of me I can’t figure out what the delay was, since I had time to study their whole operation. They had a big grill, tons of servings prepped in the cooler (on display), plenty of cooks, and plenty of expos. Again - I think it had something to do with delivery orders messing up the queuing system for those who ordered in store. A total disaster, especially for a restaurant claiming to be there since 1992. Would think they’d have service figured out by now. If I had a coworker I really dislikes - And wanted to ruin their night - I’d recommend this place to them. It wouldn’t make them sick - but it would certainly agitate them!

I probably hadn’t eaten here in about 15 years and recently decided to give it a try again, mostly because I’ve heard how it’s regularly rated the best kabobs in the Northern VA area. It’s got a decent size dining room and a lot of folks working in the open kitchen, making kabobs, curries, and naan. The menu is nice, as it has several curries (some available as sides with the kabob entrées) and lots of kabob options. I tried the combo of Seekh and chicken, with muttor aloo and aloo saag. The chicken was tender and spiced perfectly… it tasted amazing! The spices used were great too, which is hard to do in a chicken breast kabob. The seekh kabob was equally flavorful and perfectly spiced. But the two curries I got as sides were boring and bland. I found this VERY disappointing, as they looked great and I really wanted them to match the flavors of the meats, but no luck. The naan was the worse thing though… They premake a pile of them and they grab from that pile to fulfill orders, which I watched them do for me. The naan was rubbery and slightly cool. Typically when “real naan” that’s made with the proper dough, that’s spread properly, and that’s baked in the Tandoor properly… typically that naan will crisp up as it cools and become hard. This naan was cool but turned to rubbery – horrible dough was used! Inside the restaurant was interesting… lots of absolutely silly stickers (junk like BLM, etc) all over, which they clearly let others put all over the sides of fridges in the dining room, etc. And there were several police related stickers posted, which were vandalized. The ownership needs to clean all these nasty, hateful stickers up. Overall… If in the mood for midnight (tho I went for lunch on this visit) kabobs, I’d come back. But otherwise, it’s decent, not all it’s cracked up to be though.

They have really good meats but the spinach and rice were kind of bland. The last time I went here a few years ago pre-pandemic I remembered the food having more flavor. Maybe they changed the recipes. I used to think this was the best Afghan place in the area but now I think the place in Tyson's Corner is better and less expensive. Now don't get me wrong Kabob Palace is still good and the meats are as I remembered but everything else was a little disappointing this time. Even the Nan didn't seem the same. Another thing the wait was insane it took us 45-50 minutes to get our food in a place that is so small that you can't possibly socially distance yourself from others and with all the people eating, as every table was occupied and the other people that were just not wearing a mask I left my N95 on and now I'm praying I don't have COVID because of that visit. They are open 24 hours so maybe plan to go during an off hour because they cook the kabobs fresh to order which means you are going to wait a considerable amount of time for your food. Also it's not cheap. It's not expensive but it's definitely not fast food. We spent $73 for four people and we didn't even get drinks or dessert. If you are comfortable with crowded tightly packed places were people are not wearing masks then this place is an experience otherwise I would order from Door Dash or Uber Eats and if those aren't and option for you then order and wait in the car because it's going to be a while. One last thing since I mentioned waiting in the car the parking around the restaurant is horrendous so be prepared to find street parking and walk.
