Second time ordering here. I found the secret to getting enough meat on these pizzas...pay for triple meat.
The Philly style steak pizza here doesn't have as good of a flavor as its Domino's competitors, but is a little more affordable. The white sauce doesn't have that "Alfredo" flavor and there is no choice for provolone cheese which would add flavor. White American cheese has virtually no flavor.
I wanted to order a sandwich to pick up when I got there and was told it would be 20-25 minutes before I could even say which sandwich I wanted. I passed...I didn't want to stress the person out any more. Got a sit down meal at the Mexican place next door and was out of there faster than that.
Now its time to try one of their other specialty pizzas for comparison. They always seem to have good deals going on...I'm a big fan of that!
The day before placing the order, I couldn't get simple answers from them, like "what is the spicy cheese bland comprised of". The person I spoke with had not even heard a couple of the terms I was reading directly from the web site.
The web site could be more descriptive on some of the items. As a first and second time customer I was unclear on a few things, but the web site functions fine otherwise.
Original review: First time trying Marco's. This location is just not normally convenient for us and we live over 20 mins away.
Creating an account on the website and ordering, including making changes to toppings, etc. was very easy. The value for the money is good as well. My order was ready by the time I got there at what I would have thought would be still prime lunchtime between 12:15 and 12:45. No waiting...in and out.
Ordered the Philly pizza. Our only complaint is the same as Domino's...put some danged meat on there! I ordered double meat and that wasn't enough. I cant imagine how you can even taste the meat with half of what was on this pizza. They have a triple meat option...maybe using that I can finally get a cheese-steak pizza with enough protien. We're trying to eat dinner, not a light snack! Other complaint, same as so many other places...toppings very unevenly spread. I think they teach this in pizza 101, "be sure to top the pizza as haphazardly and uneven as possible if you want that raise". I would get fired...I instinctively cant screw up pizza toppings like that.
The pizza was good otherwise and it reheated very well on a hot pizza stone in the 350deg oven for 10 minutes. We always reheat because we dont work in town and there is no dining-in at these places. We pick up while passing through town, and take home for dinner.
I also ordered the Italiano sub. It was good as well. I did not know it was a hot sub. If I order it again I'll remember to not add some of the toppings I did...I understand why they dont build it with lettuce as default now! I enjoyed the sub, but it didn't make me stop and say "wow this is great!" compared to other subs I've had, but I would order it again.
The price point is fair. This alone helps the food taste just a little better! The sandwich is inline with competitors but I feel the pizza was a fair deal, and thats why I'll be coming back for it...triple meat added...
Read moreSimply if you eat here and there happens to be a mistake with your order caused by them, don’t plan on your issue being heard out with empathy or care from the owner Susan . They charged me $32.00 twenty-one times. They stated that was an issue with their system and that it was not showing up on their end at all, and since they could not see the charges, they would fall off the next day. I was told that information by one of their GMs. Having worked in retail and foodservice in my past, I knew this wasn’t the case and waited an additional day to call back. Unfortunately, I had the displeasure of talking with the owner. She was extremely rude and said it’s not their issue; it’s a bank issue, and she did not have the time and hung up on me. I printed out the information the statements only wanting to see if there was some way to contact their technical support or whoever handles issues like this to help speed along the process and brought it to the location. I asked to speak to the owner, and she came up, “like yeah, what do you want” mind you, I never met this woman for Adam. She is immediately defensive, and all I am trying to do is show the woman’s the paperwork from our bank since it seems like she didn’t believe me in the first place. She looked at the paperwork and kept saying, “there is nothing I can do, and I am annoyed that I have told you this and yet you are here” I let her know the the issue was no longer that her store charged me twenty-one times, but also a lack of proper customer service etiquette skills. She then proceeded to throw the paper at me and walked away, and told me to leave. It is disgusting that a business owner would act like this, especially when times are tough for all of us. I wasn’t asking her to give me cash as she kept implying or acted; I was simply asking her to help troubleshoot by contacting the technical support folks on her end. She made a lot of assumptions about me, but there is one that is for certain, I will never eat at a Marcos...

I cannot say enough good things about the Marco’s Pizza location here in Charlottesville, especially manager Eva who went absolutely above and beyond! We needed 20 pizza pies for an event with very little advance notice, and Eva and her team made it happen without hesitation.
