Came here on Cinco de Mayo for the first time with a group of friends. The server appeared to have about half the tables in the restaurant and was not receiving assistance from runners or management. People in our group waited for appetizers of cheese dip for almost 45mins, after asking 4x for it to be brought to the table. Also about 20-30min wait for mixed drinks. When checking on the table it was like only 2-3 of the people were asked if anything was needed and the rest of the table was ignored. Soda cups sat empty for over 30 mins before finally being able to ask for a refill. When ordering food, one person ordered a burrito with no lettuce, beans, or sour cream and were told “we are busy so i don’t know if they will do that or not”….I’ve been to plenty of busy Mexican restaurants that were busy and it was no problem. After I received my meal I asked for a side of salad and waited over 30mins for my salsa to the point my food was cold so ended up sending my dinner back and not ordering anything else since we were already going on over 2 hours of dinning. After most were done eating multiple people were still ordering drinks and the server told us we had to leave the table bc our time was up. There was no sign posted or notification there was any type of time limit on the table when seated, and besides the point we were still ordering, not just sitting taking up space. I called the manager over and she said “you are not being kicked out, but you have to leave”….sure sounds like being kicked out to me. She also stated “it’s like a hospital, when it’s busy you have to keep things moving so that is why you all need to leave so others can dine”. Never knew I Mexican restaurant was like a hospital. I asked her if the money we were continuing to spend by ordering drinks and possibly more food was not good enough or worth less than others and she just circled around saying the same thing over and over. Bottom like this is the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant and will never return and hope this review will steer others away from this awful establishment with...
Read morelove this place from the ground up. Came with the UNCC ultimate frisbee team for a celebratory tournament dinner. Eagerly looking forward to the Mexican experience, we were serenaded with the savory smell of fajitas and tacos. The tortilla chips were so crunchy with a crispy edge. The beautifully textured salsa was great. A classic Mexican starter. I ordered the Chicken Fajitas, per recommendation from the waitress. The flavor in the chicken was so juicy and rich with spices. The chicken was charred to perfection and the food seemed to melt in my mouth like a fluffy snow flake falling on a bright winter morning. The first bite forced me to audibly moan as my taste buds filled my body with pleasure. The fajitas underneath grilled to perfection, oozing with flavor and juices inside of my burrito. Even better was the texture of the chicken, charred with a sweet chewy texture. The sides complimented the main dish beautifully. The side flour tortillas were heated to perfection with a nice warm sensation in every bite. The dish was wonderfully paired with the remaining sour cream and guacamole. The service was also over the top. Our needs were met and exceeded. The smiling eyes of all the waitress and the chefs truly allowed us to build a strong customer to employee connection. We had the opportunity to share a brief, yet memorable moment with the waiter when trying to figure out what Brandon ordered. While I myself did not drink, my friends described the beverage as citrus and yummy with a nice cold kick. I also highly recommend getting the deep fried ice cream, it's sweet and silky texture was life altering. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming as we were seated in the beautifully decorated room. A restaurants character is often revealed in the details. Everything was artistically unique, down to the cups, which were curvy and had a very eye grabbing shape. I will definitely be returning to this location time...
Read moreThe food was okay-ish. The cheese on the enchiladas was not my favorite. It was white melted processed cheese like for nachos so it was super runny. My biggest complaint is the service. Our server was so slow and inattentive that another server noticed and asked us were we okay and would we like the dirty plates and cups removed from our table!! My daughter, husband and I were visiting for an early dinner. When we asked for another soda because the machine was out of syrup, the waitress fixed it and brought a new drink but left all of the other cups of carbonated water at our table. She did the same when we needed refills (which we had to flag her down and ask for). So by the end of our meal, the 3 of us had 6 cups at our table, and the appetizer chips and salsa she also left behind when she brought our meal to us. I also ordered a different salsa that we paid for which didn't arrive until after I had eaten one of my enchiladas because she forgot we requested it! Still charged us for it! I paid and tipped the young man that was nice enough to clean our table and offer us our ticket. The original waitress returned with the changed and receipt, without speaking to us and walked away. Its probably safe to say that the other server that helped us out told her I said she was super-duper slow and inattentive. We MOST DEFINITELY did not like our visit at Poncho Villa and would suggest anyone visiting to stay on top of their server. Flag them down if you have to, and do not depend on them to remember you are even their responsibility or how to keep a table clean...
