Ah, Rise & Shine Diner—where breakfast isn't just the most important meal of the day, it's the event of the day! Tucked away in Ashland, Virginia, this gem is like the morning sun breaking through the wilderness: unexpected, warming, and absolutely rejuvenating.
Picture this: we're camped out nearby, absorbing nature's splendor, but yearning for something more—something that truly encapsulates the comfort and joy of a morning in Virginia. Enter Rise & Shine, the answer to our breakfast prayers.
We opted for takeout, and let me tell you, even in takeout boxes, their dishes shone like the morning star. The aroma wafting through the air as we unveiled each item was tantamount to a siren's call, beckoning us to indulge without hesitation.
The pancakes were not just fluffy; they were cloud-like, so tender they almost melted on the tongue. Drizzled with just the right amount of syrup, each bite was a perfect harmony of sweetness and texture.
Now, let's talk eggs. These weren't just any eggs; they were the epitome of what an egg should be—cooked to perfection, seasoned just so, embodying the very essence of farm-to-table goodness.
And the bacon? Crispy as hell as we requested, savory but not overwhelming—each strip was like a masterclass in pork craftsmanship. Whether you're a bacon enthusiast or a casual fan, this bacon would convert you into a lifelong devotee.
Now, let's not neglect the coffee. Rich, robust, and steaming hot—it was the liquid gold that tied our entire breakfast experience together. Each sip felt like a warm embrace, reminding us why mornings were invented in the first place.
The cherry on top? The service. Even for a takeout order, they made us feel like family. The attention to detail, the promptness, and the cheerful interaction turned what could have been a simple transaction into an experience to remember.

Read moreFirst, I must say... Great customer service!!!! Ok, now for my review of the food: I ordered a veggie omelette with hashbrowns and toast. When I opened up my to go order, I was please with what I saw. On the other hand, I was not that pleased with the taste. For one, I don't eat pork, but there were surprise pieces of bacon throughout my omelette and you could taste the bacon grease on the bottom of the omelette. The veggies tasted like they were cooked separated and when put together lacked the cohesiveness that had no seasoning.
The hashbrowns were pretty good, but my onions weren't cooked in them, but placed on top. Once again, there is a lack of cohesiveness and flavor because items were cooked separately and not seasoned.
My concern is if someone has a food allergy or don't eat certain foods ...they will nit be aware that everything is cooked on one surface. If someone orders a "veggie omelette," why would it be cooked over pig lard/bacon grease? I am hesitant about coming back due to this being a safety issue for me and makes me question the kitchen etiquette.
UPDATE: I went back in and told the host/cashier about the omelette. He and the rest of the servers apologize numerous times. They re-made my whole order and did it in no time. I am DEFINITELY coming back. Their customer service showed that they cared and want their customers happy! I have changed my 3 star review to a 4...
