Do not support Thai Gourmet! There are many better options in our area where you are treated with kindness and respect. Since Thai Gourmet opened we have been frequent customers. Probably eating there at least 3 times per month. We have also introduced many friends to the restaurant and have always taken out of town relatives or friends here. In other words we brought a lot of business to Thai Gourmet. We loved that it was so close and convenient. Plus the food was always good. The owner use to be so nice and friendly and a couple years ago he started being extremely rude and nasty to us. Therefore we started going to other Thai restaurants to not deal with him. However, last night a friend and I decided to eat there hoping the owner wouldn’t be so rude. Unfortunately, that was not the case. He didn’t even acknowledge us when we walked into the restaurant, we just awkwardly found a table and sat down. He took his time waiting on us and we felt that he was angry that we were even there. He took our order without even as much as a hello. After we were finished eating, we were talking for awhile and he walked over to us without saying anything and took our drinks away. So, we thought we better leave. We walked to the counter to pay and he turned his back on us and walked away. After making us wait, he gave us our check and I decided since he was so rude he didn’t deserve a tip. He called me out on it and said very loudly in front of other patrons, you aren’t even leaving a tip for me? I said no I am not and he said from now you can only get take out from here! He basically forbid me to come to his restaurant. I can’t believe a business owner being that rude. He not only lost our dine in business but, I will never purchase take out either. I do see a pattern in his reviews that he is rude to others as well. While we were eating we heard him being rude to another customer that was there for take out and after she left he talked about her to another customer. Very unprofessional. I can only imagine what he said about me...
Read moreWent for family dinner, 4 adults & 2 small children. Owner practically growled at us for asking for table for 6 ( they only had 2 other tables with people). After we stood 5 minutes for him to decide to put tables together, we asked for some waters & the menu. He practically threw the menus at us as he went to seat other people who had come in. Still no waters and it was hot in the restaurant as well as outside. What I presume was the dishwasher finally asked what we wanted to drink, and we were served most of our drink order AFTER everyone else who had walked in after us had been served. Then, they started taking everyone's food order before us, again we had been there 10 minutes before most of the people. When i asked the server if we could place our order I was told "in a minute". I told him we had come in before the other people, he started YELLING at us. And he YELLED the same thing over & over. Again, we had small children & asked him to please stop yelling & he just got louder. We got up to leave & was told we had to pay for our drink order that we had just gotten & hadn't had a chance to even take a sip. When 1 member said to him it's a shame that he would let a probable $80 order walk out the door, his response was "good, I don't have to pay taxes on it"! Everyone I have told this story to says they have had similar experiences there. Read the other reviews, the man who works here is extremely rude to customers!! We were looking for something different; was a long weekend and we really didn't feel like cooking dinner at home (then cleaning the kitchen). A friend asked if we had ever been to Thai Gourmet Restaurant in Mechanicsville, which is a fairly short drive away. We had never been there and decided to go.
So happy that we did. The owner is super nice; she said that she began running the restaurant 2 years ago after working there for her uncle for 17 years prior. She took a couple minutes to walk us through the different types of things on the menu, and then we ordered. Green teas for both, Chicken Satay appetizer, Bangkok Chicken (light on the spice) for my wife and General Tso's Chicken (medium spicey) for me.
Wow. Not only was the service friendly and expedient, but the dishes were outstanding. Tender, tasty, and every component was super fresh (meats, veggies, rice, etc.)
The General Tso's was probably the best I have ever had. You know, sometimes you order it and they serve it drowned in sauce, or overcooked. Not here. Perfectly sauced so the chicken remained crispy on the outside but very tender inside. Medium heat? Yup... was wearing collared shirt and the collar did get a bit damp! LOL. Loved it.
So glad that Thai Gourmet was recommended to us. They were doing a very busy carryout business while we were there so we know that we will return as both sit-down and carryout customers...
