We had a couple meals here soon after they opened and it was just ok. But we wrote that off as growing pains and tried again. They became much, much better, to the point where felt comfortable taking out-of-town guests there with confidence.
THEN we went the other day and literally had the worst restaurant experience we've EVER had! The place was practically empty, so we felt lucky to get the place to ourselves.
Service was quick and friendly, initially. I ordered the cod fish special and my husband ordered a burger. We were sitting close to the kitchen which was directly within my line of site. I didn't see the regular manager (tall guy - maybe owner). No problem. I did see a woman who appeared to be the mgr. I had never seen her before. Again, no problem. As my husband and I were chatting, waiting for our meals, I saw a chef/cook put a burger up. It sat there for a while, under the warming light until our server walked up, said something to the chef/cook, who took it back. Almost immediately the cod dish came up, in the same spot, making me think these were our dishes. Now the cod sat there a while under the warming lights. Finally the burger came back up, our server took them both and delivered them to our table.
I tried a fry right away and it was limp and lukewarm. Oh well. Then I tried to cut into my cod and it was like rubber. I thought maybe it just wasn't the best quality fish. I took a bite and literally had to spit it back out. The server came back to ask about the food. I told her that it was literally inedible. She apologized and took it back immediately. I ordered baha tacos instead.
In the meantime, the mgr came to the table. She apologized, explaining that they were "training" a new chef. She said he's from New Orleans so "he should be really good." Whatever. She agreed that the cod was completely raw and said she had to tell him "it takes longer to cook a thicker piece of fish." Ummm, I thought he was a CHEF! Any home cook knows that! I was polite and accepted her apology.
I mentioned that the fries were cold too and said it was probably because it had been sitting under the warmer while it was waiting for the burger that had been retracted and replaced. At that point she told me that's not what happened (even though I watched it with my own eyes)! She said I don't understand how there kitchen works. I let it go.
My husband ate his burger, which he said was "just ok," while I watched him, waiting for my replacement meal. The manager came back and admitted that the burger HAD been retracted because the "chef" had put the barbecue sauce ON the burger, instead of on the side, as my husband had requested. (So instead of asking if this was a problem requiring redoing the whole meal, they just took the burger back.)
The mgr subtracted the cost of my meal, but I'm afraid to go back. Is it under new management?? I hope not. I hope it was just a bad night. I'll be...
Read moreJust returned home from the Ashland location. Really wanted to like this place. We know that everyone has had their struggles with the COVID pandemic, but this was our experience. We sat inside and the music was so loud we could barely hear our server and we had to yell to hear each other. It took atleast 40 minutes to get an order of wings and they charge $.50 for extra ranch/blue cheese which we weren't told. Our server asked each of us our preference without communicating there was an additional charge. We each ordered tacos, I had the baja chicken and my husband had the texas brisket. My chicken tacos were just ok, he said his texas brisket had very little flavor. The menu states that the meal comes with a side, so we each ordered the brussels sprouts based on previous reviews of how good they are, the sprouts that came out with the tacos did not have the bacon jam so our server had the kitchen do another order and those sprouts had the bacon jam but weren't cook, my fork wouldn't even go through them. When we got the bill we were charged $1.00 for each order of sprouts. There was no where on the menu that indicated an additional charge and the menu had a list of sides to choose from. We asked for the $1.00 charge for the brussel sprouts and the $.50 for an additional dressing with the wings to be taken off the bill. The manager came by and we had a 5 minute conversation about our experience and explained why we wanted the charges removed and he was nice and said he would fix our bill. When we got our bill again there was no adjustment so we had to wait again for the correct bill. We could have easily afforded the $2.50, but it was the principal and to have to send the food back and the bill back is less than an ideal experience. If there is a charge for a different side or additional items it should on the menu or communicated by the server. It's unfortunate our first experience was lacking because we aren't sure we...
Read moreFirst impressions can be everything. We stopped here a few nights ago. Hostess sat us outside at a table. We waited, and waited, and waited. Finally someone ran food to the table next to us, didn’t acknowledge us, and went back inside. Brought out a round of drinks to table next to us...still nothing. The couple at table next to us advised us they waited forever, told the hostess, and still no one came outside. They ended up walking inside to order their drinks and food and they wanted to gives a heads up cause it looked like we were about to share their experience. I decided to get up and leave and go to the restaurant next door. Can’t comment on their food or drinks as We sat there 15-20 minutes as if we were invisible. We frequently dine out and won’t be giving this place another chance.
Update 12/2/2020: I stand firm with my one star review. I emailed as asked below and received no response. We decided to stop there again a couple weeks ago cause a friend said we HAD to give it another try despite not receiving a response from the email I sent after the first experience. We were sat and ordered drinks. I got my drink and we were informed the beer my fiancé ordered keg blew. He orders a different beer...10 minutes later told it froze. He picks a THIRD choice (at this time we have now received our food and he is eating with no drink, not even a water) and guess what, that line was froze too! We started to laugh at this point it was so ridiculous that we were 45-50 minutes into our visit and he had nothing to drink.. The manager eventually brought out a yuengling for free by the time we were almost done with dinner. This place is now 0...
