We went to Riverbound this evening for an early dinner to accommodate our children's sleep schedules. We also love beating dinner rush. When we arrived, the restaurant was not busy. We were given our drinks and placed our food order pretty promptly. Within 30 minutes, the restaurant filled up. We began noticing everyone else around us who had came after us, began receiving their dinners, and we did not. A total of 50 minutes went by and still no food, and our waitress did not even check on us once she got our food order. My husband had ran out of drink and she did not refill his drink or check on us once in the 50 minutes. I had to get out of my seat, go to the hostess and ask for the manager. It was at that point the manger brought our dinner. Before the manager brought the dinner, the waitress did bring my husband's drink, but was not apologetic at all and said that the manager would be over soon. It was just horrible service from the waitress. We ordered a sub and chicken/waffles. I could see the chicken was clearly burnt before she put the food on the table. The manager stated they would give us a discount on the food. Not good enough - I'm not paying for burnt food after waiting almost an hour for a simple meal. I declined the meal and asked to leave the restaurant. We were regulars to this restaurant, but it appears that throughout the last couple months, service has gone downhill. We have had long wait times on our food and poor service each time we've been. Today was the worst. Save your money and go elsewhere if you are looking for good food and prompt service. Eggs UP Grill is much better. We will...

Dang it! I'm still bent out of shape about this one. This place was stupendous in its hayday. They offered very tasty sandwiches, main courses, and their breakfast was to die for with a chipped beef over texas toast that made you want to lick the bowl before you asked for another giant serving. They had a certain flair that they added to common staple/comfort food dishes offered in a sizable menu to choose from and then they would even name the dishes after some of their customers. The owner was and still is a pretty friendly guy...I remember being invited by some of my neighbors to meet up with the owner for breakfast in which we all enjoyed great food and mimosas on the patio...good times! Eventually the owner took on another business opportunity and opened up another restaurant called Marty's on the other side of Mechanicsville which is doing very well. I assume that he focused more time and attention towards the new restaurant because Riverbound became greatly simplified with a shuffle in slightly less seating, the menu was shortened, and the food became more basic in taste. It seems that Riverbound was reduced to run on auto pilot. I get it but damnit bruh! I guess I will just have to go to...

We went for Sunday Breakfast, it was busy. But were able to be sat without a wait. Our waitress, was on the older side, guess a lifer waitress, so far in the weeds, couldn't keep up. No silverware, was provided when sat. We ordered the home made cinnamon rolls. They came out cold, but the sugar icing was warm, very disappointing they weren't baked fresh delivered out of the oven hot. We were splitting 2, but no silverware. Had to wait for the waitress to come back, ask for silverware. Waited and waited, brought one roll. They didnt have any more. That should have been a sign. This place is poorly managed, and the waitstaff under performs. No concern at all. The food comes out, the kids didn't like the pancakes, thats a first. Wife's order was wrong, and the grits were not hot, no steam nothing, the table butter didnt melt. My order. Well the old waitress forget to add it to the ticket. So it never came out. When I spoke to the manager, she took my meal and my wife's off. Thats when we noticed, mine wasn't even ordered. The bacon was good, it was my side. Huge disappointment. I picked this place over eggs up grill, Sorry Brittany (best waitress at Eggs up Grill), never...

We stopped by Riverbound Cafe after an impromptu trip to Mechanicsville. We ended up eating the loaded tots appetizer (pictured), the Ballard’s club sandwich (pictured), the Texas melt, and a slice of buttermilk pie and peanut butter pie. The loaded tots were great, and the ranch (which I’m assuming is made in house) was simply phenomenal. I really enjoyed the club sandwich. The Texas melt was not my favorite. The biggest problem was actually that it was too much meat, which made it more like a regular bbq sandwich instead of a melt. The meat overwhelmed the cheese and bacon. The fries don’t look like much, but don’t let them fool you! They were also delicious, and the ranch really elevated their flavor. The buttermilk pie was yummy. The peanut butter pie was fine, a little dry but not bad. My husband also had two mixed drinks, a Shipwreck and something else. The drinks were weak but tasty. I wanted to add that our service was pretty good, great considering there seemed to be only one waitress for the whole place. She was very friendly and helpful, but definitely stretched thin. So perhaps come with patience in case they are short staffed!

Overall the Food was pretty good. The Crab Dip was fantastic with big chunks of fresh lump crab. The bread was not what it should have been. The Club Sandwich was perfect. Onion rings, though frozen were hot and tasty. We drove a little over an hour to come here only to discover that all entrees were removed from menu because of being short handed in kitchen. Our server was doing her best but the kitchen was clearly struggling to keep up even with reduced menu. No less that 6 tables that came in after us received food before us and we only ordered a Club Sandwich with Onion Rings. Saw 5 Clubs served to tables that came after us. Server finally served the Club without the Onion Rings after about 45 minutes then brought Rings 5 minutes later. No fault to server here. Three stars were for food and Server trying her best. Still left $7 tip on $25 check.

After reading some reviews I had to check it out myself. Some reviews were good some We're not so good. The place should have better than a 4.4 score. I sat at the corner of the bar. There was no shortage of staff that was mentioned in another post. Another post mentioned the bread. This place isn't trying to be known for its bread. That would be important in a five diamond restaurant. Breakfast here is phenomenal. And I will say that that the bar is very meticulously kept. It was very clean. People were very nice staff was kind and quick.
