I have been eating at Tippy's (not always the same location) for about 30 years. I usually select the Monterrey dinner, but sometimes the Tippy's Special. The former adds two crisp corn tortillas (4 total), guacamole, and queso dip, to the taco and enchiladas/rice/refritos of both. All very tasty. Eat the queso dip while it is still hot. The hot sauce here is different from that I've had anywhere else; I make sure to get a table where there is plenty in the jar. You can purchase a refillable soda cup which will save you mucho dinero if you come here repeatedly (and don't forget to bring it). They used to send discount coupons by email, but have stopped, unfortunately. Also, unfortunately, they close up at 9pm. They have a daily special (not the same as the Tippy's Special dinner) and 99c tacos on weekends. Regular prices are fairly reasonable, too. Order at the counter, and your food will be brought to your table. Self-service soda machine.
As of summer 2025, the place has changed its name. And hours--now open until 2 AM. I have not yet visited, so I do not know if the food/menu is the same or completely different. Prices went up a lot after the date of the above review; weekend tacos special is long gone. The daily special was the best value of late, but until I make a new trip there....
Read moreIt's Tippy's, a legendary hole in the wall with that got trapped in the 80s. For those that know, this is EXACTLY what we love about Tippy's. However, like all legends, things sometimes fade with time.
My burrito tasted good overall, but unfortunately it had almost no cheese, and that is what it needed to make the leap to being good to being a great burrito. It's not that Tippy's was ever known for putting a lot of cheese, even when you ask for extra, but this had half of nothing compared to previous visits. For the cost, you could spare a little more than the tiniest pinch at one end.
Best I can tell, the table side hot sauce has changed recipe - today the "hot" sauce tasted almost like a doctored up ketchup, a bit sweet without much heat. Very reminiscent of their red sauce, which I did not order this time. If you like mild, this might actually be a positive. For me, I eat Habanero's picked off of the vine, so I missed the heat.
The soda- I grabbed a birch beer. Phenomenal. This is the soda of all sodas.
Understand me, It's not that anything was bad, it's just a few things changed. It's still good, and the place is still worth a visit.

Read moreI am primarily here for Tippy’s hot sauce. Tippy’s red hot sauce, in my taste opinion, is balanced. I detect just a hint of vinegar and the heat hits at finish at back of the palate. It isn’t habanero hot but at point you feel. The taco’s are pretty good, made using minced beef. Diced tomatoes are totally tasteless as majority of tomatoes are these days. When hydroponic tomato growing started in the mid 1970’s it was the beginning of end for them. RIP tomato flavor. Corn chips are okay, a little thick for my liking but hey, they are hot sauce delivery system. Tippy’s fountain birch beer is my beverage choice. As good as the hot sauce is the value. Not much to say about ambiance; orange booth seats, orange wall and painted cinder block wall along with worn out, faded, indoor-outdoor carpet. I am not angling for capital investment update decorating. Let’s not rock the menu...
