Our family dined here yesterday evening to celebrate our younger son’s birthday.
THIS IS THE PLACE FOR ITALIAN FOOD IN GLOUCESTER, AND ONE OF VERY FEW RESTAURANTS ANYWHERE THAT I RECOMMEND WITHOUT ANY RESERVATION.
This is the first time I have had the great good fortune to dine here, although both Sheila and Chris have wanted to take me previously—and they have brought home Tony and Milena’s splendid pizza before, so my recommendation incorporates the excellence of their pizza as well. The house Italian dressing on the salads is a beautiful combination of extremely fine olive oil with balsamic vinegar. The freshly-baked garlic knots are a dream in themselves, slightly crisp on the outside, but smooth and flavorful inside. We also ordered the Mozzarella Sticks with Marinara Sauce—and they were the best we have ever had anywhere! Chris and I both enjoyed the seafood cannelloni, although I chose the fresh bright red and flawless marinara sauce, while Chris had the more exotic Cognac Pink Sauce. After Sheila shared her Pesce Barramundi in White Wine Sauce with us, all of us agreed that there could be nothing on the menu that was not, as they say, to die for! Excellent food from beginning to end of the meal, prepared with exceptional skill by members of a family with generations of experience as chefs and restaurateurs!
But Tony and Milena took the prize Saturday night, December 10, 2022: our meals, paired with a bottle of Vallotaj Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, and served by a member of the family with great skill and consideration, simply could not have been more delicious or more enjoyable—which, after all, is what all of us dream of for a birthday dinner for our loved ones! Read moreMy wife and I were staying at a bed & breakfast in Gloucester, Virginia and decided to eat here at the advice of the innkeepers.
Tony & Milena's was much like a visit to Little Italy (NYC), or "The Hill District" in St. Louis. I've been to both.
Though busy, we were seated promptly. It added to the atmosphere that our server had an Italian accent. The menu had Italian classics, such as Veal Saltimbocca and Pasta Bolognese. I chose Veal Venezia which was veal with red bell peppers, Italian sausage, pasta (I chose linguine), and a light Alfredo sauce. This was on the list of chef specials. People have debated the authenticity of Alfredo sauce, but my focus was on the skill of the kitchen. It was excellent and my linguine was perfectly al dente', which I prefer. My wife had Penne (pasta) with the house marinara sauce. While her dish was simple, her marinara sauce was exemplary! I tasted her sauce. To me, it had the perfect subtle tartness followed by a hint of sweet with a savory finish and low acidity. While I loved my veal, I found myself wanting to eat from my wife's dish! The whole time, our server tastefully checked on our table and ensured our needs were met and our beverages were refilled. Note: They offered a variety of fantastic wine choices - my wife chose a glass of Moscato and lived it.
Tony & Milena's has an authentic, old world vibe, wonderful food and wine and very attentive service. Highly...
Read moreI went there today for lunch for the 1st time with a good old friend and his mother. It is the only restaurant in Gloucester County on "Map of the Best" at the moment, highlighting the quality of the place, and one of the top reasons why I wanted to try it out. I had a fantastic experience there. While I had recommended it based on the close proximity to Yorktown and it being on Map of the Best, my friend's mother upon arriving before we ate said it was her favorite restaurant in Gloucester County. The service was excellent and the waiter was attentive. They were also very accommodating and they even let me order in advance for dine in since I was short on time. The setting made me feel a bit like I was experiencing Italy in the US. It looked like an Italian family owned restaurant. Plenty of items there were straight from Italy with the labels in Italian or Italian themed, like some of the paintings there. The dining area and bathrooms were nice and clean. We got the 16x17" Sicilian Square, the mozzarella sticks, and all was great. I wondered if 1 pizza would be enough for all 3 of us, but we ended up needing to take a box for the 8 pieces left. I was a bit short on time, but regret not trying some of their desserts, as they looked delicious. I will definitely...
