Buckle up, you're in for a ride.
We had been waiting for months to try out the new Velocity Wings in Fairfax. I work by the Purcellville location and eat there frequently, I was excited to take the fiance to the new one.
We get there about 6pm (knowing there would be a wait), hostess says 25 minutes, worth the wait.
A few other groups come in, and in normal fashion, add their names to the ever growing list.
After a few minutes a couple walks in, ask how long the wait was, and add their name to the list (remember this, its important later). They proceed to get a drink at the bar.
After a few more minutes of waiting, we see what we assume the manager see a couple at the bar and greet them with a handshake. Then ask if they are waiting for a table. The gentleman says they are, but they had only been there a couple minutes. I hear the manager say "let me get a table ready for you." The guy said "no, we don't want to take a table from someone who has been waiting."
The manager says, "Ok, no problem. Let me know."
A few more minutes go by, we see tables getting freed up and cleaned, so we figure the wait wasn't much longer.
As of now, its been 30 minutes. Still 2-3 groups ahead of us. (Again, we newly opened, 6:30 pm on a Saturday night, that's what we expected.)
We see the manager go back up to the couple at the bar and say "follow me, we have your table ready." Then go up to the hostess stand and tell them we was seating the couple, to take them off the list.
The manager takes the couple to a table and talks for a few minutes. When he leaves he has to walk passed me, I get his attention and in as many words say its ridiculous to be seating friends of his when there has been people waiting 40+ minutes. His reply "Well, they had reservations." I tell him that I had been standing there when the couple came in, inquired about a wait, then added their name to a list so I knew they didn't have a reservation. So then the so-called manager says "well, they are friends with the owner." That's when I tell him in people not the nicest way, it was ridiculous to be giving away tables to "friends of the owner" right in front of other customers. Meanwhile he is standing there with a deer-in-the-headlights-look, not knowing what to say.
I am all for pulling strings when you know someone, its all good, but don't do it directly in front of people that had been waiting there for...
Read moreThe food was great. However this time I went I found the service to not be great. I've worked in food service before and I know it's a tough job. But sometimes waiters are rude. I went and I was in a good mood it had been a long day and I occasionally like to order drinks. I am 21 and have a valid ID that I showed the waiter. While in conversation with my friend when I handed him my ID he asked for the date, he was rude about it and it caught me off guard. I told him the year and then he told me no to say the whole date, yes I stumbled on my words but I wasn't giving him a fake ID and it felt completely embarrassing that he thought it was. People stutter and stumble over their words. And he was rude to begin with when I politely asked if he recommended anything on the beer menu. I understand that can look suspicious but I went in just wanting to try something new. I wanted to unwind and enjoy a good meal with a new drink. The waiter clarified he couldn't try any of the drinks and I then understood he was younger which is fine but the way he talked me which was cutting felt really upsetting. I didn't think asking for someone's opinion was wrong as I've had people ask me the same at my previous jobs. Sometimes people want an idea of what is good or not. I don't believe I was rude, I'd just like to say that I don't think it's nice to go to a place where you are treated rudely when you haven't disrespected the person that is serving you. I'd like to clarify that I'm sure things could have gone better but now I feel discouraged to go back. I have never treated waitstaff rudely and this experience put a damper on my night and the attitude genuinely hurt my feelings. I understand it's a college community and there's caution to it as a result but it's unfair to be turned away from a service when I was not...
Read moreI saw this restaurant on our way back home so I decided to try it out. (I should have read Mike Chandler's reviews before going.) When we got in, it was crowded and there was live music. The hostess/cashier, who took our order, she deserves 5☆! She took our order accurately, very knowledgeable and extremely helpful.
It took about 30 minutes for the food to be ready. As for the result...I won't be returning! The Grilled Wings, AWFUL! (We ordered 20.) They were DRY and OVER COOKED! We chose 4 sauces; Smoked BBQ, Bourbon BBQ, Honey BBQ and the Hawaiian. Don't get the Hawaiian! It tastes like the pineapple juice from the can. The Velocity Burger, there was nothing special about it. The Greek Gyro, the lettuce was dry. (As if the sandwich was warmed in the oven.) The shoe string fries were very salty. I would not recommend going here.
For the price we payed, it's not worth going here. Don't waist your money!
(A lot of the staff were not wearing masks but there is a sign when you go in that says that masks are required. It was very crowded.)
Update: I did leave half of my burger and fries for the next day. I removed the onions, tomato, lettuce and bun and broiled both the burger and fries for 7 minutes in a conventional/toaster oven at 300°F. (Last night I used the Smoked BBQ. So this time I chose to use the Honey BBQ sauce. I put some on top of the burger to give it a bit of flavor.) While that was warming up, in a saucepan, I caramelized the onions. For the remaining 2 minutes, I added the bread in the oven. When it was done, removed it from the oven and added more Honey BBQ sauce to the burger along with the onions, tomato and lettuce. Results; the burger tasted much better!...
