Favio's Trattoria — Restaurant in Wallingford

First things first I wanna give props to the three people serving. Though this place is really small and only fits about 10 tables + the bar they were doing pretty well as it seemed like the third person was the bartender. Now onto the real review. We made a reservation for dinner and my bf has a severe shellfish allergy. I told the guy on the phone and he just told me to tell our server which is fine. The not fine part is when he sat us directly in front of the kitchen where all of the shellfish has to walk by us. I almost said something about moving but didn’t notice an empty table until we’d already put our entrees in and had told him about the allergy while ordering so I didn’t bother. As we were waiting for our entrees the tables behind us were so obnoxiously obscene and loud that we could barely hear each other talk(there was no music so the noise was just from them) come to find out that they know every single person working there so they were letting them do whatever they wanted. When the food came out my bf’s pasta was amazing. Portioned so perfectly he ate the whole thing and the cream sauce was seasoned perfectly. Mine on the other hand was dry. I had gotten a pasta that had meat on top and it was so dry I almost choked on it. Now with our food eaten and us already pretty annoyed with the table behind us and the shrimp and clams going over our heads we were ready to leave. But it felt like it took a very long time for them to come over when they had checked on the louder tables numerous times. I understand that they’re regulars but how are you supposed to get more customers in if you forget about them?? Anyways, they drop our check I pull out my debit card immediately they take it and for some reason the man that took my card is yelling across the restaurant about how he needs my PIN number??? I have NEVER had an issue like this at a restaurant where they need my PIN number to pay at a restaurant. It was the most bizarre thing that’s ever happened to me. On top of that instead of coming back to the table and saying something he yelled across to tell me he needs it…uhm…okay???? I go over type it in then he says my card declined twice?? Come to find out he’s swiping a card that can’t be swiped. My bf and I were over it and just gave him a credit card. Which is funny because we went somewhere else for dessert and my card worked fine! Really fantastic addition to the Wallingford restaurant scene. Prices are reasonable, portions are generous, and the dipping oil served with bread was delicious. The fried mozz is a classic for a reason and theirs was very tasty - three large triangles covered in a very nice marinara. The chicken parm with vodka sauce was one of the tastiest dishes I have had in a long time. Husband had the chicken broccoli rabe dish, was a little too brothy but the flavors were great. Service was very friendly and professional and the food came out quick.

My only gripe is the size of the place - I don’t blame them for cramming in as many tables as they can, they need to make money, but it does make the place feel awfully cozy once it fills up. It’s too bad they couldn’t take over the spade next door like the former owner’s had, it would really open things up.

Favios was nothing less than amazing! I went for birthday on a snow day 2/13. Place was very inviting. Emily who seemed to have entire reataurant due to snow day was great! She was very knowledgable , attentive and wonderful. I ordered the scallops which was with pappardelle pasta in a lobster cream sauce! It was absolutely delicious : I was very pleased of the wonderful flavors and portions . My dad and son had the chicken parm which had a delicious vodka cream sauce spin to it. My dad’s gf had the chicken and shrimp with asparagus sun dried tomatoes in a delicious wine sauce . Flavors were great and bursting in the mouth with every bite ! For dessert, we had lemoncello flute , tiramisu , and crème brule! All were awesome ! First time and honestly had one of the best Italian meals in a long time ! I will definitely be back !
