My family is in love with Chefski's pierogi!! I mean, hard core. My grandparents came here from Poland after WWII, and my mom and my uncles grew up on Polish home cooking. I'm second generation American, and unfortunately my father didn't instill the Polish traditions in my household (divorced parents). But when my mom's family gets together for the holidays, it's a HUGE thing. I mean, just the immediate family is nearly 20 of us. At one point it just became too much for my aunt to keep up with the cooking (all the boys would gobble it all up before it was even served!)
So one year my mom ordered from Chefski's and brought over the beet soup (borscht? I don't know how to spell it.. ugh haha), 4 different kinds of pierogi, kapusta, and a couple of other things. Well, needless to say, it was gone in the blink of an eye. My uncles were in heaven, saying it was the closest to grandma's they could get without her being there (she passed away when they were still in high school). Now, every time we get together for Thanksgiving, Christmas, or Easter, we order a ton of food (we're talking close to $500 here lol) and bring it to the family. They give so much food for the price, too. It's amazing. The quality of their ingredients is fantastic as well, always fresh! (I've caught them running out for fresh items during the holiday season hehe)
This little hole in the wall has the most amazing, authentic Polish food made by the sweetest women. I'm sure once they read this review they'll remember who we are too lol Can't wait for this year ladies!! I might even stop by sooner to pick something up to tide over my boyfriend and I while we wait. Writing this review has given me...
Read moreI get it - old school- no frills- delicious authentic polish food. i was excited to try it - bc i love this kind of thing. the more old school and authentic the better. however the owner (?) / lady at register couldn’t be bothered to make recommendations. she actually seemed annoyed that i asked. I brought my toddler son . He was playing by the window. Granted and in fairness he could have and should’ve been sitting at table w me… but i figured since no one else was in there at the time (totally empty) and it was such a casual no frills place - it looks like a 1970s pizza place- i didn’t think it was a big deal. The chef must’ve had a camera on the window? and came out and literally grabbed my two year old child by the arm and ripped him away from the window. he’s lucky i didn’t make a big stink about it but I couldnt get out of there fast enough and wont be back. 2 stars bc the pierogis were “good” but not...
Read moreTheir food used to be excellent and we ordered almost every week. They have new owners or chefs, but since then their food has sharply declined.
Their potato pierogi are bitter and the dough itself is different which offers a more brittle consistency. The dishes we ordered were all bland as well which is a far cry from their past. The chicken cutlet was very bland strangely enough versus their past recipe which had very nice flavors in the breading. The hungarian pancake and stuffed cabbage are nigh unrecognizable with more commercial/ catered flavors which no longer have a homemade taste. However their strawberry pierogi are excellent.
That being said this is no longer our place of choice for Polish cuisine and I would recommend potential customers to be aware that most reviews are before the change in recipe from March.
The staff itself are friendly, the atmosphere is clean...
