Nama Sushi & Teriyaki — Restaurant in Walnut Creek

This is my second official review of my series: Lunch in the Creek. I went on Yelp, typed in "lunch" and searched for the top rated lunch spots. What did I find? Check out my list.

I've been enjoying sushi for a number of years now. I haven't always been a fan, but I know what I like. I normally go with the more American sushi rolls, but I can appreciate some more authentic sushi too.

Since this was my first time here, I saw that the Ryan roll was popular on Yelp and I also decided to get a California crunch (a old fave of mine). While many of the reviews are true (this place is pricey), I've never been disappointed spending extra for some good sushi and this place has some good sushi.

The Ryan roll is just wow! The flavors mix perfectly and that's what I love about it. There is a lot going on there and it is definitely unique. The crunch roll had the perfect slight crunch to it, while not taking away from the rice, sushi and avocado. Both had a spicy sauce that added a much appreciated, extra kick. The rolls are what I would call standard size, about 10 rolls total.

Good food, but horrible service. We came on a Sunday night. It wasn't too crowded when we got there, but more people came as the evening went on. They had only two servers working. The food I got (tendon) was really good and my friend's food (sashimi bowl) was good, as well. But the servers were not attentive at all. Not once did they ask if we wanted water refills or hot tea refills (except at the end when we got the check... O_o;). They forgot my salad and didn't give it to me until AFTER we got the entrees and I told them about them missing it (it should have been given with the miso soup). We also had to wait forever for the check and had to flag down one of the servers. I enjoyed the food, but the service was terrible. I might just get take-out next time if I ever go back. I placed a phone order and was able to pick up the 5 different rolls I ordered in under 40 minutes. While waiting for my order to be packaged, I took some time to notice the multiple signs around the restaurant that had rules for COVID-19. I was impressed how serious this restaurant is taking the pandemic and ensuring that indoor dining can be safe. I appreciated the staffs kindness and awesome customer service. I ordered the crunch california, spicy crab crunch roll, california roll, unagi, and ebi. They were all made with fresh ingredients and we're all delicious. I felt really satisfied with my order and experience picking up. I will definitely be ordering again especially because it's only half a mile...
