O'Brien's Ice Cream — Restaurant in Walnut Creek

This is my go to place for when im craving icecream which is usually in the evening. so when i was rushing to get to guanatos before they closed yesterday around 745pm i managed to get in the door at 759 pm when they were closing at 8pm. Now i work in customer service so i can understand that its not ideal for some one to come in a minute before you close but regardless if someone comes in before we close wether its 2 mins or 1 minute i would never turn a customer away. And unfortunately that's what happened. I walked in the door 1 minute before they were closing and there was even a line full of people ahead of me but this girl that was working told me that she still had to close everything up and i was surprised. All i can say was "really?" And she just said "yah really" i was so upset i just walked out and decided to just write this review. Like i said i love this place but after that i dont think im gonna be going back because i am huge on customer service and to turn away a customer like that before your even closing and ontop of that you have a line of customers,I dont...

disappointed. the ladies who worked here before did things 1000x better and were super organized and clean. I understand low staff is an issue, but there is a lot of things to be worked on. the health department seriously needs to check this place out, some of the items have freezer burn, things are stale and sour, probably expired. think about what you are selling to people who are paying money for your product and do better please. this placed used to be great, now only the icecream is kinda worth it

Glad to hear you passed with flying colors with the Health Department, but that doesn’t excuse the obvious decline in quality. I’m paying for a product that’s stale, freezer-burned, and not up to the standards this place used to set. Cleanliness and health standards are one thing, but serving good, fresh food is another. I love O’Briens ice cream! Favorite flavors are the Mexican chocolate, Horchata, and Banana. Also, the only time I’ve ever seen avocado ice cream was in the Philippines! Wonderful! O’Brien’s reminds me of gelato in Italy. It’s dense and creamy (very little air) and their flavors are intense. Highly recommend!

UPDATED 03/20/2025 I’ve been very disappointed the last two times I’ve been to O’Brien’s. The size of the scoops were dismal. Is this a new thing? Less ice cream for a higher price? Or perhaps the kids working the counter haven’t been properly trained? In any case, I have felt ripped off, and as good as the ice cream is, it’s left a bad taste in my mouth. I would rather not patronize Baskin-Robbins, but if I can get more bang for my buck there, then BR is where I’ll go. O’Brien’s, please up your...
