Mr. Pho California Kitchen - Walnut — Restaurant in Walnut

My first time ordering from Mr. Pho. I got the chicken pho and the Saigon sandwich. Here's my verdict: Chicken Pho - Don't get it. This is not chicken pho. The broth doesn't taste like pho, the chicken is shredded, dry and not fresh. You can't just throw chicken broth, noodles and shredded chicken together and call it chicken pho. Chicken pho has to be done right and its not easy. There are restaurants that specializes in chicken pho only. There are very few that can do both beef and chicken. You are misleading your customers by offering this. Many may never have chicken pho before and you've given them a false representation of what many consider a core staple of Vietnamese cuisine. Saigon sandwich - Good but with a caveat. The insides (meat and vegs) is very good. The bread was REALLY chewy. Maybe because I got it to go and the bread was toasted but its been sitting there so that's why its chewy ? At any rate, I took it home, took out the insides, toasted the bread, put back the insides, and everything is good. So maybe only order the sandwich when you are at the restaurant. I tried Beef Pho, Spring Rolls, and Sandwich. Taste was just okay. Not that great, Not that bad. Very optimal for a new business.

Definitely I will be there again to try another menus. Interior is very cooler than any others pho restaurant. It was feels like I am in the modern bar tbh.

Spring Roll was so so. I recommend it.

Pho had good portions of meats and noodles. Soup taste is just like “Oh it’s soup” If you really like deep tastes from soup or if you expected salty soup, you’d might be disappointed. However, just like what I said, it’s very optimal taste. You can control the salty with sauces. So wasn’t bad at all. I would love to try again with different types.

Sandwich. Taste good But the portion of Sandwich wasn’t. If they put little bit more meats and veggies than I had. It will be good when I compares to the other pho places.

Service is okay.

Before covid, this place was a Japanese restaurant but unfortunately they couldn’t open and finally this new pho restaurant opened.

Best Vietnamese restaurant around the area! Love Pho here. They made the soup so savory and tasty. There’s so much meat in 1 bowl and the portion of everything else is big. The back ribs were cooked to soft but chewy, sweet and tangy. Not all Pho place makes good, authentic taste of broth. This place is 1 of the successor in that. The interior is not a standard Pho restaurant, but designed to stand out and luxury I have to say. Drinks menu is also great. They offer sugar cane juice, their thai tea is also amazing! The smell of strong green tea, mixed with the right amount of milk really brings out their handmade recipe. I want to try the eggrolls and garlic noodles shaken beef next visit.
