Jake n JOES Sports Grille - Waltham — Restaurant in Waltham

I hosted a party for around 55 people and about 15 of them were kids...a surprise 80th birthday party. Not an easy feat! Not only was Jake amazing feom the first phone, but he was detail-oriented, accommodating, and on top of everything--his entire staff was as well! They took great care dealing with allergies and speaking with chefs because my daughter has food allergies, and they were able to accommodate us with things we wanted that weren't typically on the buffet menu for a party. The bartenders and servers were amazing; friendly and personable, talking with everyone, as was Jake. Multiple times the bartenders came from behind the bar to come over and check on me and a others to see if we needed anything. When I arrived that morning a few of them even helped me Assemble decorations! I simply can't say enough positive things about this location. The staff even helped me orchestrate the surprise for my father and hid the guests! The food was amazing and everyone raved about the food and service throughout the night as well as the next day. I was beyond pleased and would recommend this venue to anyone, whether you're just going for a casual dinner or if you're throwing a huge party! They do it all and they do it well. Visited Jake and Joes one evening and while the hostess was pleasant enough from the first to my last interaction with the wait staff was nothing short of terrible. My server came to the table at least five minutes after I was seated which I understand might not be his fault but even from the way he asked for my drink order and especially after I didn’t order alcohol he attitude quickly turned into total indifference. After taking 20 minutes to bring me the drink I ordered he took my order with the same indifference and then the wait began. The restaurant wasn’t at all busy but between my soup and my burger it took at least 20 to 30 minutes between each to get to the table. Again I don’t generally hold it against the server for the speed of the kitchen, I do expect that they will come and check on you from time to time but not tonight. After ~50 minutes my burger arrived, no refill offered for the drink, and no condiments. Before I could realize I didn’t have them I had to wait another 15 minutes for my server to come back by. Went last night as a party of four and will not be going back. My friend got a burger and it was supposed to be cooked medium. Over half of it was legit raw and cold. Like it looked like it hadn't even touched the grill. After we told our waiter, he told the manager. The manager took it off the bill and said "I hope you're OK," to my friend who had just legit eaten raw meat. My friend was sick for the rest of the night. The service was extremely slow and it took a while to get any alcoholic drinks over to the table. Our waiter seemed much more attentive to the high-top table right near us who had drinks come over right away and food too. Not sure if they worked there but it was obvious they were a top priority. As a server and bartender, I never leave less than 20% and I still left 18% but I honestly wish I hadn't due to the horrible experience we all had. For $185 even before tip for four people and really none of us enjoyed our food besides the apps and the fries, it's not worth it.
