Give the address to 'Siri' she'll get you here...I tried and got lost because of the one ways. Park on Moody and walk in. Happened on this place back in the 90's ... same look, feel and food ... Mexican. Authentic right down to the wait for them to realize OH, these are our guests and they want food! They put down their phone, pick up the homemade chips and salsa– and an extensive menu for a restaurant three times their size. They have 9-12 tables and 3 MEGA TV screens in one large room plus fair weather tables outside. Once you've ordered –'wisk' and they're back in the wait station huddle. Not the most attentive, but the drinks arrive ... all is well. Margaritas and sangrias seriously Mexican! Huddle breaks and the food rolls out. The Mexican Plato and an assortment of tacos...all good, warm–not hot. The rice 'to die for' star of the meal, next to the drinks. Had they been more attentive we would have ordered another margarita and desserts. When I finally got someones eye contact, they send over the check lady who asked how was the meal. I pointed out – it was great but, I didn't know I was finished. It's a language thing...the huddle is in Spanish – the customer is in English. Practice conversations with your customers ...they would like to hear from you ...not the least of which, to order more...
Read moreI have been coming to this Taqueria for nearly 10 years and am sad to say I think its quality has taken something of a nosedive. It was a regular favorite during my college years, but on a recent return I found the service attitude abrupt and quality lacking. Several orders were wrong and had to be redone, and simple requests for extra napkins or chips had to be made several times before they were fulfilled. The food was also just ok. To make matters worse they weren't serving water or any drinks made with water because they'd been having a problem with their pipes. I think they should do something to compensate for that if they know it's an ongoing problem, such as offering discounted bottled water or something. Also, the lights were flicking on and off through most of our meal, which was distracting and unpleasant. After one of the waiters turned off the overhead fans (presumably to decrease electrical strain) the flickering lights stopped, but the temperature got uncomfortably warm. They seem to be struggling with issues of service quality, food quality, and atmosphere consistency. Until I hear they've improved on some of those, I might not return. But I am hopeful they can get back to the great quality they...
Read moreAight, listen up New Englanders — most of you wouldn’t know good Mexican food if it hit you in the face (if someone suggests Lone Star Taco to me one more time I swear to god 🙄).
But as someone who has lived in Texas and New Mexico for most of his life, I can assure you that THIS place is probably the best, most authentic and delicious Mexican food spots available in the greater Boston area. The hole-in-the-wall atmosphere is low key, but festive and iconic. The margaritas are HUGE and delicious — especially the Tamarindo one with the tamarind spice rim. There’s chips and salsa on your table practically before you sit down — and that salsa is HOT, just like it should be…none of that fake Boston New American “spicy.” The menu has surprising depth, and is extremely fairly priced for Boston (3 tilapia tacos for $12? That’s a win). And oh man the refried beans and rice are stunning — exactly like my abuelita used to make.
Boston isn’t renowned for its Mexican food, and good spots practically don’t exist — but this place. This place gave me a taste of home just when I thought I couldn’t get it in this city. If you’re dying for a taste of the Southwest in this coastal city, this is the...
