The restaurant's dishes were surprisingly outstanding - on par with the authentic Chinese cuisine found in the bustling Chinatown neighborhoods of New York or Los Angeles.
I was pleasantly surprised by the freshness and crispiness of the food, which elevated the standard menu items to a whole new level of deliciousness. Even the ordinary Kung Pao and General Tso's Chicken came with fresh veggies such as zucchini (!) and mushrooms in a multilayered, delicate sauce, unlike the limp broccoli, and unidentifiable white vegetable (is it an onion? Bamboo shoot?) and dull brown sauce that I had grown accustomed to.
The simple Crab Rangoon appetizer staple was a melt-in-your-mouth, fresh delight. The Walnut Shrimp was served in a light, airy, tempura-like batter, with a sweet sauce served on the side. Every dish was exceptional and left me wanting more.
However, I did notice that there is a difference between dining in and takeout for fried dishes. When I ordered the Walnut Shrimp for delivery, it lost the airy, crispiness that it had when I dined inside the restaurant. So, I recommend dining in when possible to enjoy the full flavor and texture of the dishes.
One downside is that the dining room is not very inviting, kind of dark, and it's BYOB. But, don't let this discourage you from visiting this hidden gem. It's tucked away in a strip mall, and definitely worth a visit, especially if you're a fan of great Chinese cuisine.
Addendum: I've read the negative reviews, that are not just bad, but diametrically opposite to my experiences. Others who I recommended the place to, have been similarly impressed, and we all have well-traveled palates. All I can say is, that's it's...
Read moreStone Wok offers Chinese, Japanese and Thai options. That's usually a sign of too many choices and nothing done particularly well, and while that's somewhat true, the first visit went okay.
Friend and I each ordered a bento box as this lets you choose a piece from each part of the menu. Went with Mongolian Beef, brown rice, Connie Salad and a Dynamite Roll. Beef was decent and actually spicy; this review is probably four stars rather than three for the actual heat. Connie salad was also good. Not surprisingly the sushi roll was kinda meh. Place is too inexpensive to possibly offer good sushi. Oh, if you're looking for inexpensive, Stone Wok is for you. Get yourself a lot of food for cheap.
The service was fine. Seated quickly, water filled often, pleasant and not hover-y, check came on time.
So Stone Wok is a soft recommend for now. The variety means you can please most people in a group. If you want any one of these cuisine options there are better places nearby, but this was surprisingly good for the variety. Recommend keeping away from the sushi menu and aiming Chinese or...
Read moreWe came to town and wanted to try this place. Had good reviews. Service was HORRIBLE! I ordered a plate I normally get every time I eat Chinese and I didn't like it. The lady would not change my plate. They told me I could get a lunch order for two dollars cheaper than the dinner plate but I would still have to pay for the dinner plate I didn't like nor did I eat it. The lady didn't let us know they would charge $3 extra for fried rice which by the way had no flavor.
I paid $50 for food I did not like and never had an apology over the food. The lady never checked on us.
I'm very upset with the lack of service and how little they cared about the overall...
