UPDATE 7-2025: Bub & Pop's, one of my all-time favorite sandwich spots in DC, is open again. They moved from their old location near Dupont Circle and are now open in NoMa at 100 Florida Avenue NE, inside the space that used to be Eleanor's.
They've kept a lot of what made Eleanor special. The arcade games and duckpin bowling alley are still there, and the sandwiches (the cheesesteak at least) are just as good as ever.
They're in a soft launch right now, so it's still early days. A full launch is expected sometime in the fall, maybe around September with alcohol license. But they are open to the public now, and the space is super close to the red line.
UPDATE: finally trying the Breakfast options, as Bubs and Pops introduced morning breakfast hours M-F. Classic breakfast hoagie (2 eggs, a meat typically bacon, cheese, leafy greens and tomato, on a roll) and Roasted Potatoes. Tastes were on point and quality, just like their normal sandwiches. They offer the 'Breakfast for Lunch' Sandwich all day.
Also tried their Oatmeal Walnut Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Sandwich. A good amount of vanilla ice cream sandwiched between 2 large cookies. Nicely wrapped in plastic for to-go options.
My favorite in DC proper. Philly native and appreciate the quality and rich flavors presented in each of their sammies and other items sold (owned by ex-Philly residents, like myself). And Chef Jonathan Taub has nice formal restaurant credentials, and is now supporting the family business.
Beer and a mixed soft drinks (and water, ask for a cup) complement well. (At the time of this writing) Prices typically range $10ish for large 1/2 sandwich and $18ish for a whole, for breakfast sandwich is around $5. Space is underground a few steps and not fancy at all (but clean). Loyalty punchcard offered too. Give this place a try, methinks you'll really enjoy it. Excellent cold and hot sandwiches with optional condiments (sweet and hot peppers, a 'spicy hoagie spread', horseradish, etc), very good bread and higher-end ingredient quality.
(Update): they serve mostly the breakfast to lunch crowd. Currently M-F 8 to 4pm, and Sat 11am to 4pm.
They do occasionally run a unique Saturday night price fixed dinner, branded "Supper at Bubs". Multi course, prix fixe menu with wine, liquor and additional beverage pairings. Checkout their website to learn more, and to see when they may be running...
Read moreTypically, I hesitate to leave a negative review for a small business, as I respond to reviews for small businesses. Still, the leadership team at this establishment should be aware.
I live in NoMa and have ordered cheesesteaks from here twice before, but the bread is not toasted, so the sandwich quickly gets soggy. There is no online option to request toasted bread, so I walked over (passing five sandwich shops) to B&P to place a takeout order. I inquired with the very polite hostess, and she thought that the option to have bread toasted was on the kiosk. But I told her it wasn’t. She looked and could not find it. Then she spoke to another hostess, who told me the chef would probably not do it, but she would ask. So she goes in the back and asks the chef, and he refused to toast the bread.
This is the insanity. How is a business that sells sandwiches - known for sandwiches - and you refuse to toast the bread? 🤦🏽♀️ As basic as Subway is, they toast their bread. So I was going to proceed with the order, although the hostess was adamant that he would not toast the bread. So I asked if I could get the bread on the side. Then I thought about it, there are so many options within walking distance to entertain this foolishness at B&P.
There was an establishment directly across the street, and as it is Thursday, at the African stand at the 3rd St farmers market, they toast their sandwich bread. The area is not lacking hoagie options. So I opted not to place an order at B&P, walked less than five minutes away, and ordered a DELICIOUS PoBoy with toasted bread at The District Fish Wife for $13. I live in a building in NoMa with 452 units and a very active tenant group chat. And now I’m gonna tell other people my experience. So if the owners or marketing team are reading this, you need to realize there are way too many options in the immediate area to be this uncompromising about something as basic as toasting bread.

Read moreThis place usually has great food, I was there recently and got a chicken parmesan sandwich for the very first time, not only was the sandwich overcooked the bread was burnt outside and inside, what was suppose to be sauce inside was totally dried up, it was really awful, to add to already being very disappointed with my sandwich, I take it back after spending my entire lunch hour dealing with it , the girl at the window had the worst customer service ever, she was so rude not only to me but another co-worker expressed the exact same rudeness from her, clearly she does not need to working directly with customers, I was told well we don't give refunds at all, never was I asking for a refund, I just thought if she had any real customer service skills, the answer should have been well let us try to make it right , of course that never came out of her mouth, I said can I get a chicken salad sandwich instead with only extra mayo and cheese only, she proceeded to say it's a extra 2.00 dollars for that, so you'll have to pay again for another sandwich, I thought you gotta be kidding me after all I just went through, I said I'm not paying 2.00 for no mayo, my entire office will not patronize this Bub and Pop's shop ever again on M. street N.W. and will pass it on to others, Customer Service is a plus, some people just have it and others have no customer service skills at all, and she had absolutely none at all!!!!! Very disappointed customer that you...
